Rafael Nadal’s match against Alexander Zverev yesterday was viewed by millions of fans around the world. However, a big fan of his – WTA veteran Alize Cornet revealed that after his game she dreamt about the Spaniard last night.

Nadal suffered a disappointing loss at the hands of Zverev to exit the Roland Garros in the first round. Cornet was in the stands at the Philippe-Chatrier Court seated close to Caroline Garcia as she watched her idol succumb to a defeat. Meanwhile, the Frenchwoman was making her 72nd Grand Slam main draw of her career at the Roland Garros.

The 34-year-old ended on a streak of 69 consecutive major main draws, which is a record since the Open Era, despite only reaching the quarterfinals of the major event once at the 2022 Australian Open. But, she made a name for herself in the game after beating Serena Williams thrice in 2014 and also ended Iga Swiatek’s 37-match win streak at 2022 Wimbledon.

The 2024 Roland Garros will be her final career tournament as she is set to hang her racket. But, before doing so she talked about her vivid dream about Rafael Nadal.

I slept well. I have to say I dreamt of Rafa all night long (smiling). I dreamt that he would suggest me to have a three-setter in Strasbourg to play a match with me, and then I would be with his family, we would win, we would celebrate. So I woke up this morning, and I thought, ‘Oh, well, I'm saying everything this morning.'

Besides that, Cornet will play in the doubles partnering with fellow Frenchwoman Fiona Ferro. She will also participate in the mixed doubles with Frenchman Nicolas Mahut.

Alize Cornet officially retired from tennis after losing her first-round match against Chinese Qinwen Zheng 2-6, 1-6. The French veteran, who was handed a wildcard entry to the Roland Garros, was given a ceremony of honor by the tournament organizers.

After the match, she admitted that she wanted to say goodbye to tennis in front of her fans and family, as the French Open means a lot to her.

It was my first tournament. It was my first Grand Slam tournament when I was 15, and it will be my 20th this year. This is where I wanted to say farewell to professional tennis. I am glad to have reached that point in my life where I can say goodbye in front of my fans and my family.

Cornet won 6 WTA titles. She was also a part of the France team that clinched the 2019 Billie Jean King Cup, although at that time it was known as the Fed Cup.
