French player Alize Cornet announced her retirement from tennis at the age of 34. A true veteran of the sport who was part of the WTA circuit for over 20 years announced on Saturday that she will hang up her racket after the upcoming Roland Garros. 

It was an emotional moment for the Frenchwoman, who hopes to end her wonderful career on a high and in her home ground at the French Open.

Soon, many players wished her a happy retirement life, but none were as touching as that of Rafael Nadal. The Spanish legend sent a personal video wishing her the best for the future.

In a recent video on Canal+, Cornet was surprised by this video from Nadal, and her reaction was caught on camera. Nadal wished the 34-year-old for her outstanding career so far and congratulated her on the road that lies ahead. 

Cornet on the other was left smiling, genuinely overwhelmed by the sudden message from Nadal. She was in disbelief and was also seen sobbing in her hands. They were tears of joy upon receiving a message from the tennis goat. 

Even though the French Open is the last resort in her career, the 34-year-old will end on a happy note. Throughout her time in tennis, she has racked up 6 WTA titles and over 25 wins of top 10 players.

She also has some incredible records such as ending Iga Swiatek’s 37-match win record and beating Serena Williams three times, when she was No.1.
