The women’s singles category never fails to have thrilling matches. The quarterfinals at the All England Open too had some exciting matches lined up.

Ratchanok Prevails over Mia

The rising Danish star Mia Blichfeldt gave Ratchanok Intanon a good run for her money. She took the first game 21-18. Ratchanok had to really fight hard the next game as the Dane kept fighting hard, but eventually, the Thai prevailed 21-17. The third game was a class apart by Ratchanok with expertise and experience at her disposal as she swept the decider 21-10.

Chochuwong beats Zhang

Chochuwong has been making headlines with some great performances against players like Marin and even her compatriot Ratchanok Intanon. She kept up her promising form as she beat Beiwen Zhang of USA 21-16, 21-19 in 38 minutes.

Okuhara prevails over Busanan

It was a tough game for the Japanese Okuhara as she fought for an hour and 13 minutes against eight-seeded Thai player Busanan Ongbumrungphan. Okuhara came from a game down which was close, and quite commanded the next two. The game was filled with long gruelling rallies with a combination of good defence and attack. It was Okuhara who finally won 18-21, 21-8, 21-16.

Sindhu thumps Akane in a thriller

It was an enthralling game between Akane Yamaguchi and PV Sindhu. It was a shaky start for Sindhu despite picking up the initial points. Akane won the first game with her consistent strokes and errors from Sindhu. The tables turned in game two as the Indian defended and controlled the shuttle better, and attacked.

The decider was a true test of fitness and nerves going point-by-point, each giving their best. It was the reigning world champion who prevailed as she converted her first match point opportunity. In an hour and 16 minutes, PV Sindhu beat Akane Yamaguchi 16-21, 21-16, 21-19.
