Leon Edwards‘ welterweight title run was cut short at UFC 304 by Belal Muhammad. Edwards lost the main event bout by unanimous decision and looked inefficient throughout the fight. According to Edwards, he didn’t feel well during the fight and couldn’t execute the game plan. However, the latest viral video suggests there could be something else to the story.
Recently, a video of the interaction between Leon Edwards and his coach, Dave Lovell, caught the attention of many fans. The fighter was dominated by Muhammad and looked helpless during the fight. In between the rounds, Lovell snapped at Edwards, asking him whether he should stop the fight. In response, Edwards, without skipping a beat, asked his coach to shut up.
Passionate arguments between the coach and fighter are common during the heat of the moment. This particular one looked weird to many fight fans. Something similar took place during Edwards’ fight against Kamaru Usman at UFC 278. His coach’s speech which motivated him to land the KO, went viral that time. However, it didn’t work this time at all.
The Manchester crowd was chanting ‘Headshot dead‘ throughout the fight week to support Edwards. The fighter was devastated by the loss and took to Instagram to apologize for his underwhelming performance. ‘Rocky’ revealed that he would come back stronger, and it seems like his coach has already chosen the right opponent.
Leon Edwards’s coach believes that the fighter should take on rising welterweight Ian Garry next
At UFC 304, Leon Edwards got outstruck and out-grappled by Belal Muhammad and looked very lethargic. Many speculations were going around after his disappointing performance. His coach finally cleared the air and revealed that the fighter had back injuries during the camp.
Dave Lovell also discussed Leon Edwards’s comeback and shared interest in fighting Ian Garry. The Irishman is undefeated and ranks #7 in the welterweight division. According to Lovell, it would be a great fight, given the history between both fighters.
I’d like to see Leon and Garry. Obviously we can keep it British-based. Either island or over here. As you know their little background story we had going back last year, he’s looking for a scalpDave Lovell via Submission Radio
Last year, Ian Garry went to train with Team Renegade and Leon Edwards’s team. However, he didn’t last there longer and accused the Brit of being insecure about him. However, Edwards refuted those claims and mentioned there was no such thing. According to Lovell, this is a good enough backstory for the UFC to make the fight and settle the score.
