Allisha Gray and the Atlanta Dream have hit a bit of a roadblock over the last two weeks. After an impressive start to the 2026 campaign, the Dream have been struggling and should be concerned, almost halfway into the season.
The Dream met the Golden State Valkyries for the third time in two weeks. After coming up short in their first two meetings, Gray and her team went into the game with something to prove. Unfortunately, that was not the case as they suffered an 88-83 loss at The Gateway Center Arena on Saturday night.
During a live interview in the fourth quarter, a frustrated Gray called the referees “trash” after a call did not go in her favor.
You just gotta keep playing, refs are trash, but we moving on from that.

Allisha Gray is an experienced player and a veteran in the league. She was drafted as the number four pick in the 2017 WNBA draft and is currently in her 10th season.
After spending six seasons with the Dallas Wings, Gray has emerged as one of the best guards in the league after joining the Atlanta Dream. She has been selected as an All-Star in all her four seasons in Atlanta.
She is having her career-best season in scoring, averaging 18.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 21 appearances. Despite her impressive numbers, she was not selected as an All-Star starter. Her snub was strongly voiced by her teammate Angel Reese.
The officiating in the NBA and WNBA has come under severe criticism over recent years. The lack of consistency in foul calling has been frustrating for the players and fans lately.
Fans react to Allisha Gray calling the referees “trash”
Allisha Gray calling the referees “trash” may draw a WNBA review. The frustration comes after a strange technical foul she received during the second quarter. She was hit in the face by Cecilia Zandalasini; Gray confronted her and was issued a technical foul for her reaction.
Her reaction to the officiating quickly went viral, with fans buzzing across social media.
Neither players nor coaches should be able to speak their mind during a game. Officials should be able to take constructive criticism. Someone has to hold them accountable, just like the players are for their performance.

Funny, I watched part of this game in 3rd and 4th quarters and got frustrated with the calls against the Valkyries.

Good mentality to not dwell on things you can't control

Why are you posting this?! The refs were trash but in Atlantas favor. Did you know they had double fts of the other team? It should be @BrickCenter_ posting this. lol

While some fans sided with her comments, some believed that her calling out the officiating did not make sense, as her team shot almost double the free throws compared to Valkyries.
Allisha Gray had a rough shooting night against Valkyries
The Dream are looking to win their first championship this year. They have built a strong squad to contend for a title, especially after trading for Angel Reese in the offseason.

The early signs were promising as the Dream raced off to 12 wins in their first 16 games. The team chemistry was clicking. Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard are having their best scoring seasons, while Reese has been a double-double machine for the Dream.
Heading into Saturday night, the Dream were desperately looking for a win. Unfortunately, their losing streak has extended to five games. The big three of Reese, Howard and Gray combined to score 58 points, but lacked efficiency.
Gray led the scorers with 22 points but went 5-17 from the field and made just one three-pointer in five attempts. She went 11-16 from the free throw line and committed four turnovers in what ended up being a frustrating night for the 31-year-old. The Dream still have some work to do before they can be seen as title contenders.
