Despite coming into the NFL as a third round pick, Alvin Kamara has established himself as one of the best running backs in the league. Over the 9 seasons he has played football for the New Orleans, he has used his dual-threat capabilities to set himself apart.
There are not many halfbacks who can impact a game both as a runner and a pass-catching receiver. The only other athlete to have successfully done that consistently in recent times has been Christian McCaffrey.
The 49ers running back uses his strength and speed to inflict damage on opponents. Kamara uses his burst of speed and his elusive running style to gain yards by the dozen. He literally averages over a dozen yards per catch or carry throughout his career, and that is what makes him effective, even though he is crossing into his 30s.
The Atlanta native signed a 2-year, $24.5 million contract extension last season. Now, there are rumors that the Saints, who are struggling in this campaign with a 1-5 record, are looking to offload their star running back.
I don’t want to go anywhere and I’ve said it countless times. Y’all know that, I think everybody knows that, the fan base knows that… If I was a GM, I guess I would go to the player and say, ‘Hey, we’re trading you, just so you know.’ So if Mickey comes down and says that, I’m going to go drink a piña colada somewhere.
Alvin Kamara told 4WWL’s Ricardo LeCompte
Great stuff from #Saints RB Alvin Kamara as he spoke about the trade rumors on Thursday

Kamara shot down the report that he & Mickey Loomis had a convo where he told the GM that he did not want to be traded – he wants to be in NOLA, but the convo never happened @WWLTV pic.twitter.com/4VFOnnROw7
The five-time Pro Bowler made it clear that he will retire if the New Orleans Saints attempt to send him anywhere else.
Alvin Kamara bashes Madden GMs for suggesting trade
While speaking to Ricardo LeCompte of 4WWL Louisiana, Alvin Kamara revealed that he and Saints GM Mickey Loomis seemed to have been caught off guard by these trade rumors.
He denied having a conversation with Loomis about any move out of New Orleans. Then the running back addressed this, seemingly pointing the finger at wannabe GMs playing video games.
Everybody sits at home, and they play like GM or owner. They are like, ‘you got to do this, if anybody is willing to give anything for these players, you trade them, da da da, or rebuild blah blah blah.’ I just sit and laugh cause there is so much more that goes into this (football) on Sunday.
Alvin Kamara said
He was talking about couch GMs who claim there is value out there if you just trade a specific player or two. However, Kamara feels that there is a lot more than just changing personnel that fans at home do not have a clue about.
Alvin Kamara could still become a cap casualty if Saints decide on a rebuild
Alvin Kamara has made it clear that he would rather retire than play for another franchise. However, the New Orleans Saints might be tempted to move him if they receive a good enough offer.

As per their current roster, they will be over the cap next season. At a time when the franchise is in rebuilding mode, the last thing they need is not to have enough money to attract top free agents.
Kamara will have a cap hit of $18.6 million next season. Current projections indicate the Saints will be nearly the same over the cap. Therefore, the only way he stays may be if he agrees to a restructured contract.
