In her final ODI appearance, Australian captain Alyssa Healy was given a touching guard of honor by the Indian women’s cricket team as she came out to bat. Healy, a six-time Women’s T20 World Cup-winning player, is set to retire from the sport following the conclusion of the series.
Earlier this year, Alyssa Healy announced that she would bring an end to her glittering 16-year-long international cricketing career, retiring from all three formats of the game. She had shared that Australia’s all-format series against India would be her last, while hoping to bring down the curtains on her playing journey on home soil. She cited the loss of ‘competitive edge’ as the primary reason for her retirement.

Wife of Aussie pacer bowling icon Mitchell Starc, Healy belongs to a family of cricketers. While a veteran of over 290 matches, she is the niece of one of the greatest Australian wicket-keeper batters of all time, Ian Healy. She made her international debut in the 2010 Rose Bowl series against New Zealand, following impressive early success for New South Wales in the Women’s National Cricket League.
She was a member of six Women’s T20 World Cup-winning squads between 2010 and 2023. Also a part of two ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup-winning sides, Healy enjoyed a standout campaign in the 2022 edition, where she finished as the Best Player for top-scoring with 509 runs. Coming to the ongoing all-format series, Australia lost the T20I series 1-2, but have secured a white-wash victory in the ODI series.

In her final W-ODI appearance, the retiring wicket-keeper batter was given a heartwarming guard of honor by the Women in Blue. As Healy walked out to open the batting with Phoebe Litchfield, the Indian players surrounded her and clapped in unison.
She also shook hands with Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, a player with whom she had a strong on-field rivalry. Her very last international match will be the one-off Test against India in Perth, starting Friday.

Alyssa Healy’s overall batting numbers read out as follows: 3,619 runs in 125 W-ODIs; 3,054 runs in 162 W-T20Is; and 489 runs in 10 W-Tests. Furthermore, the 35-year-old also retires as the most prolific wicket-keeper in the women’s international game, with over 250 dismissals.
Alyssa Healy’s retirement: What’s next for the Australian icon?
Having announced that she would retire from international cricket following Australia’s series against India, Alyssa Healy’s future plans are starting to take shape. The 35-year-old is expected to pursue a diverse post-cricket career, with a primary focus on media roles.

Healy is expected to become a cricket commentator, a role that she has been ‘interning’ for over the past few years. She could establish herself as a prime-time commentator for networks like Fox Cricket and Channel, primarily due to her knowledge of both the men’s and women’s game and sharp tactical brilliance. In fact, Alyssa Healy had even commentated during the 2025-26 Men’s Ashes.
Furthermore, she is also expected to continue in her capacity as co-host of the Willow Talk podcast with Brad Haddin and Adam Peacock. While having only announced an end to her international career, Healy is yet to open up about her franchise cricketing future. She could turn up to play for another season in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) for Sydney Sixers, a team that she played for until 2025-26.

Healy may also return to play in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in India as well. The 35-year-old had captained UP Warriorz for two seasons from 2023 to 2025 but was unexpectedly not bought in the 2026 WPL auction at her base price of INR 50 lakhs.
