Amanda Nunes will defend her bantamweight title against Julianna Pena at UFC 265
The Lioness, Amanda Nunes is set to make her return to the octagon in the month of August to defend her Bantamweight title against Julianna Pena. The news was confirmed by ESPN’s Brett okamoto per UFC president Dana White.
It is confirmed that Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena will fight at UFC 265 in August in a Bantamweight title bout. Nunes is coming off a successful title defense in the featherweight division against Megan Anderson at UFC 259. Amanda Nunes is the only female two-division UFC champion in the history.
Brett Okamoto in his tweet shared the confirmation of the fight writing, “The Lioness will make her return to the bantamweight division in August. Per Dana White (@danawhite), Amanda Nunes (@Amanda_Leoa) will defend her 135-pound title against Julianna Peña (@VenezuelanVixen) at UFC 265”.
Amanda Nunes defeated Megan Anderson at UFC 259 in the first round via submission. Meanwhile her contender, Julianna Pena is coming off a win against Sara McMann at UFC 257 in January. Pena has a record of 11-4-0 in her professional career and has wanting this title shot for a long time.
Julianna Pena finally gets her dream fight against Amanda Nunes
Julianna Pena has been wanting to fight the two-division champion ever since, Nunes’ win against Anderson. Pena stayed busy calling up the bossman of UFC asking for title shot and also called out Amanda on various occasions.
Amanda Nunes initially felt that Pena was not on her level but also said that she will fight anyone Dana White asks her to fight. Pena is the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 18 and is one of the top female bantamweight fighters in the world. She has only lost to Valentina Shevchenko and Germaine de Randamie.
