Amid the longest active postseason drought, players such as Corner Back DJ Reed have admitted that they wish to tap out after the season.

As the New York Jets approach the final week of their 2024 season, cornerback DJ Reed has begun to shift his focus toward the opportunities presented by his upcoming free agency. The New York Jets are 4-12 despite having four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
In his first two seasons with the New York Jets, DJ Reed proved to be a valuable investment for both himself and the team. He recorded over 75 tackles and an interception in each of those seasons, but his greatest contribution has been his role as a vocal leader in the secondary.
Reed’s commanding presence on game days significantly contributed to Sauce Gardner’s rapid development, with the duo forming a highly effective partnership. Now, 16 games into the 2024 season, it appears their time together is nearing its end as Reed prepares to enter free agency.
DJ Reed informed Tyler Dunne of Go Long of his decision. After the Jets end yet another season without making the playoffs for the fourteenth time, Reed wants to see some change. He went on to add that the team is not where he expected them to finish.
Reed has failed to keep his emotions in check notably when he lashed out against the referees. However, the issue has since been put to rest and Reed apologized to the officials.
However, the season didn’t unfold as Reed had hoped. New York’s offense struggled to maintain consistency, and even the October 15 acquisition of star wideout Davante Adams wasn’t enough to reverse their fortunes.
The Jets have averaged just 19.1 points per game in 2024. Defensively, the team also regressed. After allowing 20.9 points and 292.3 total yards per game in 2023, the Jets have given up 24.0 points and 312.5 yards per game this season.
Arizona Cardinals set sights on DJ Reed to boost defensive side
The Arizona Cardinals are just one week away from starting their 2025 offseason, and it will be an important one. After wiping the slate clean ahead of 2023, the Cardinals showed progress in 2024 and have shown they can be a serious competitor moving forward, so long as the train keeps rolling down the tracks.
To Bleacher Report, Matt Holder outlined why the Cardinals should aim to welcome the corner back as swiftly as possible.
At 28 years old, DJ Reed enters the weekend with 50 career passes defended, 41 of which have come over the past four seasons. Additionally, he has consistently received coverage grades from Pro Football Focus ranging from the low to mid-70s. Sean Murphy-Bunting was expected to fill the role of CB1 for the Cardinals, but he has yet to fully step into that position—a letdown following his three-year, $25.5 million free-agent signing last offseason.
