Giannis Antetokounmpo sends a clear message after showing dominance
The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the most intriguing stories in the NBA this season. After securing a trade for superstar Damian Lillard last season, the Bucks have been all out of sorts trying to establish their new championship core. However, in the midst of rumors of disbanding the Bucks’ championship core, their franchise superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo, had to make his intentions clear.
On Wednesday night, the Milwaukee Bucks took on the Detriot Pistons at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. The game went down to the wire, with a pair of missed free throws from Pistons guard Ron Holland sending the game to overtime. Giannis Antetokounmpo would assert his dominance in the game, scoring 11 points in OT to finish the game.
After scoring a clutch bucket to seal the game, The Greek Freak sent out a clear message to his fans and the organization.

Giannis Antetokounmpo ended the night with 59 points and 14 rebounds, the highest scoring output of the season so far. He fell just 5 points short of his career high of 64 points which he recorded last season. After scoring his 59th point, Antetokounmpo needed to set the record straight about recent rumors of him asking out of the organization after their abysmal start to the season.
The Greek Freak let everyone in the arena know that the city of Milwaukee is run by none other than Giannis Antetokounmpo. After bringing a championship to the team in 2021, Antetokounmpo has the right to demand anything he wants from the city of Milwaukee. He has been pivotal in bringing the team back to relevance and was also the main factor behind the Bucks trade for Damian Lillard.
Is Giannis Antetokounmpo a dark horse MVP candidate?
The Greek superstar has been dominant to start the 2024-25 NBA season. Although his Milwaukee Bucks have struggled to find their footing with a 4-8 record after Wednesday, the Greek Freak remains stellar. Following his 59-point outburst against the Pistons, Antetokounmpo’s numbers on the season reflect that of an MVP Candidate.
So far, he has averaged 33.3 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 11 games this season. On the latest NBA.com MVP ladder, Antetokounmpo placed a measly ninth place. The top five consisted of Lakers star Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, and Donovan Mitchell.
However, if the Bucks can string together a series of wins with Antetokounmpo playing at this level, the Greek Freak could leapfrog himself into the MVP conversation. Giannis Anteokounmpo has previously won the MVP award twice, in 2019 and 2020. As such, he will aim for his third MVP trophy.
His numbers so far this season blow his output in previous seasons out of the water. The Bucks must start making changes going forward. Others like Damian Lillard, Brook Lopez, and Khris Middleton need to perform consistently to help the Bucks have a winning season this time around. As such, the MVP dreams will rely on how better the team and the Greek superstar can get moving forward.
