The Detroit Lions are among the top contenders this season as they prepare for the final showdown against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18. As they lead the NFC with second-best Super Bowl odds, one may wonder what more could they ask for. However, it seems star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown seems to have an answer.
Though they already have clinched the playoff berth, the No. 1 seed in the conference is at stake in the upcoming Week 18 game. With both Vikings and Lions boasting a 14-2 record, the winner of their matchup will secure a bye week and a home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. While the victory brings glory to the winning team, the losing side will face a road playoff game in the Wild Card round.
While talking to the media ahead of the final showdown, the Lions’ wide receiver expressed his displeasure with this NFL rule of forcing a 14-win team to play a road playoff game, when they should at least earn a spot in playoffs by winning the divisional title– regardless of the outcome of the game with highest combined wins.
#Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown thinks the NFL "rule should be changed" so that a future 14-win team won't have a road playoff game. "I don't make the rules,” he said. “Hopefully we can get a win and get homefield advantage but whatever happens, we both have a spot in the playoffs." pic.twitter.com/LaNc5wQJZv

Despite having stellar seasons, both the Vikings and Lions are dealing with the uncertainty of the upcoming match as it should directly affect their postseason positioning– which is rarely seen in the league.
Lions ready for playoffs despite road game challenges
The All-Pro wide receiver stressed that advocating for a rule change does not imply that the Lions couldn’t succeed in the playoffs, even if they start with a road game. Although a bye week would really help the team to recover from the injuries a few players are dealing with, they are prepared to dominate the playoffs as they have in the regular season.
He emphasized that if the Lions earn a home-field advantage, they have the “best fans” to support and boost the morale throughout the NFC playoffs. But even if that doesn’t happen, they have an impressive record with road games.
