Novak Djokovic has started his preparation for the US Open, which is scheduled to start on August 24th. He will be chasing his 25th Grand Slam title, which has eluded him since the 2023 US Open.
He will be entering the tournament without much match practice, given that he withdrew from both the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters. The last singles match he played was against eventual winner Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of Wimbledon, which he lost in straight sets. Former WTA No.1 Ana Ivanovic, however, is not concerned about Djokovic’s chances at the US Open. She told Sporty:
I mentioned his age, but he’s not that old. He’s still mentally strong and physically fit. It’s a big physical effort. Novak is reducing the number of tournaments he plays, which makes perfect sense.
Since winning his 24th Major, he has made it just one Grand Slam final. At the 2024 Wimbledon, five-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz beat him in straight sets in the final. At the US Open last year, his run ended in the third round with a four-set defeat to Alexei Popyrin.
However, in the final stages of the tournament, those efforts may prove necessary, as may the physical conditioning acquired through matches. I think his recovery after matches, his physical fitness, and his mental strength are still there. I can definitely see him going far in tournaments.

Nebojsa Viskovic is pessimistic about Novak Djokovic’s chances at the US Open
The tennis world is divided over whether or not Novak Djokovic will win the US Open. While Ana Ivanovic backed her compatriot to win, Serbian commentator Nebojsa Viskovic said it’s difficult to bet on the 38-year-old at this stage of his career.

There’s not much to say about his chances until we see the draw, but I’ve never been a huge pessimist about Novak’s ability to win a Grand Slam title. Novak is a superman, Novak can do anything, but really… If you ask me if he can, I’d say it’s difficult .
Nebojsa Viskovic told Sport Klub
Before singles, he played in Grand Slam mixed doubles for the first time in his career. He paired up with Olga Danilovic, but their run ended with a 4-2, 5-3 defeat to Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev.

When the point was locked at 30-30 with Djokovic and Danilovic leading 2-1 in the first set against Andreeva and Medvedev, the seven-time Wimbledon champion hit a stunning forehand winner to end a rally. The Serb entertained the crowd by dancing to celebrate his point.

After knocking out Danilovic and Djokovic, the Russian pair lost to the first seeds, Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula. These players will next shift their focus to the US Open.
Medvedev was the winner in 2021 (beat Djokovic in straight sets). But the 29-year-old is not enjoying good form as he has not yet lifted a title since winning his career’s first clay-court title at the 2023 Italian Open. At the Cincinnati Masters, Medvedev suffered an opening-round exit, losing to Australia’s Adam Walton in three sets.
Andreeva, after her defeat to McCartney Kessler in the third round of the Canadian Open, skipped the Cincinnati Masters due to an injury. The 18-year-old has not yet progressed beyond the second round at the US Open. She produced her best Grand Slam performance when she made it to the semifinal of last year’s French Open. Danilovic has also never reached the third round at Flushing Meadows.
