Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX and lost. As a result, they were unable to secure a historic first three-peat in the NFL.
Andy Reid’s team played in the Super Bowl with a depleted wide receiver core and Travis Kelce, whose age appeared to have caught up to him.
From FOX Sports contributor Jason McIntyre’s view, the Chiefs rode their luck last season. 2025 will be very different.
I gotta see it. I don’t see it from Kelce, didn’t see it in the playoffs. Obviously, we are Taylor Swift fans here [but] sorry, I see some drop-offs from the Chiefs. It’s tough to stay in the top without reinventing yourselves… You can’t stay at the top forever.
Jason McIntyre said in the recent segment of FS1’s The Herd
This is not a one-time jab by McIntyre. He has consistently targeted the Chiefs since the beginning of the offseason. Previously, he criticized the Chiefs for failing to find a suitable replacement for Joe Thuney by expressing zero confidence in Jaylon Moore or Josh Simmons.

Fortunately for the Chiefs, rookie Simmons is adapting well to Matt Nagy’s offensive scheme. Regular sparring against Pro Bowlers Chris Jones and George Karlaftis is improving the first-rounder’s confidence after every session.
The receivers are motivated to bounce back from their lackluster 2024 campaign. Hollywood Brown missed the entire year due to a broken collarbone, while Rashee Rice suffered a season-ending knee injury, a byproduct of a tackle from his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
Both Brown and Rice are taking regular reps with the first team in camp. Rice also received positive news about his trial regarding his hit-and-run case. He was looking at a 4-5 game suspension, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that the SMU graduate is cleared to play for the Chiefs until his trial at the end of September.
Sue L. Robinson, the former U.S. district judge who serves as the NFL and NFLPA’s jointly-appointed disciplinary officer, is scheduled to hear Rashee Rice’s Sept. 30 disciplinary case in New York. The only other NFL disciplinary hearing she has presided over was Deshaun Watson’s. https://t.co/N4mZSOrU5W

Travis Kelce is also looking forward to the new season after a disappointing year. In a recent interview with GQ magazine, the star tight end confessed to diverting his focus to various other projects besides football.
I think [my production] might have slipped a little bit because I did have a little bit more focus in trying to set myself up. And opportunities came up where I was excited to venture into a new world of acting and being an entertainer.
Kelce said
Kelce has looked lively in the recent training camp. When reporters asked Coach Reid to describe the All-Pro athlete’s progress, Reid replied,
Yeah, he’s svelte right now. He looks like he’s 20. He’s doing a good job. He’s in great shape, and I’m not sure he didn’t come first on the whole conditioning thing. He was right up front.

Patrick Mahomes has faith in the Chiefs to bounce back in 2025
There’s no easy path to the Super Bowl. Every team starts from zero, but only two can play on the biggest stage.

The holders will always be favorites for a rerun. What about the team that finished second? Jim Kelly and the Buffalo Bills accomplished a rare feat in the early ’90s. Jim Kelly led the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances but lost all of them. So, it’s not as if the team that suffered the defeat can’t make it back to the biggest game in football.
Mahomes believes the Chiefs are more than capable of playing in the Super Bowl once again.
We have the talent to be the best team we’ve had. You’ve got to go out there and prove it, and until we prove it, I’m not going to say we’re the best, but if we go out there and win that Super Bowl, then we can say we’re the best one.

Mahomes must play his best football to secure a fourth ring. He arguably posted the worst statistic since his first Lombardi triumph, totaling 3982 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 picks from 581 attempted passes.
