Micah Parsons wants to sign a new contract with his agent present beside him at the negotiation table. The Dallas Cowboys star pass rusher displayed annoyance after franchise owner Jerry Jones attempted to bypass his agent.

Jones was in Miami to witness the fierce debate on whether to keep the tush push part of football or not. Reporters asked the Cowboys owner/general manager about Parsons’ impending contract extension.

Jones reportedly made direct contact with Parsons to start the negotiation process, bypassing his agent, David Mulugheta. The sudden act surprised and annoyed Parsons, prompting him to make a rare statement against Jones.

Chris Broussard backed Micah Parsons in this rare standoff against Jones, whom he considers the best owner in the NFL. During the latest episode of FS1’s First Things First, Broussard gave Jones an F for trying to skip Mulugheta entirely.

Jerry Jones gets an F… Micah [Parsons] and his agent obviously sound more reasonable than Jerry Jones at this point. If you listen to more of his comments as he talked about Micah like they aren’t sure [about giving him a new contract].

Over the weekend, Cowboys beat writer Clarence Hill Jr. revealed that Jones offered Parsons a contract that would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. However, Jones didn’t include Mulugheta in the conversation.

According to Jones, Micah Parsons’ agent is not a big factor in terms of negotiating a new deal.

The [Micah Parsons] agent is not a factor here or something to worry about. And I don’t know his name. The agent doesn’t have one thing to do with what we’re doing when we get on the football field against a team; Micah does.

Broussard predicts how Jerry Jones might react to Micah Parsons’ speaking out against him

Jones’ statement sent mixed signals among fans. While he confirmed the existence of a mammoth contract, he at the same time angered Parsons in the process.

After finding out about Jones’ intentions, the 25-year-old DE defended Mulugheta.

I will not be doing any deal without David Mulugheta involved! Like anyone with good sense, I hired experts for a reason. There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David!

Broussard questioned Jones’ approach. It’s not a secret that Parsons is among the top players in his position. To make him wait or worse, push him to the point where he demands a trade will set a bad example. The veteran FOX analyst advised Jones to give Parsons what he wants but fears that Cowboys fans are in for a long ride once more.

Is this the guy whose gonna help us win a Super Bowl? Yes!!! Micah Parsons is a no brainer… My philosophy is, I would have liked to have seen another year with Tua [Tagovailoa], Trevor Lawrence… Not with Micah Parsons. They can franchise and all that if they want to move forward but I think Jerry is the same old Jerry and may drag out the [negotiations] rest of the off season and at the end of the day, he will make Micah Parsons buy a nice amount.

David Mulugheta reacts to Jones’ comments

Mulugheta has an extensive list of NFL clients. Besides Parsons, he also represents Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson, Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love, and Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker. Watson, Ramsey, and Love all signed mammoth contracts with their current side so Parsons is in the right hands but at the same time Mulugheta claimed Jones has the power to speak directly to Parsons about an extension.

I agree with Jerry. It’s never been about me. The only person that matters here is Micah, and, at the end of the day, our goal is for Micah to be able to do for generations of Parsons what Jerry has done for generations of Jones.

Parsons reportedly wants a $200 million extension that will make him the highest-paid defensive end. The Browns Myles Garrett signed a five-year, $200 million contract, which includes $123.5 million guaranteed and $40 million per year. For Parsons to do better with Garrett’s contract, Jones must give him a four-year deal or better-guaranteed money.

The Cowboys fans can rest easy because the 4x Pro Bowler promised he would not follow the same route as Garrett or Trey Hendrickson and ask for a trade away from the team if Jones delays the negotiation process. He will happily accept compensation equal to his contributions to the team over the years.

The Cowboys drafted Penn State graduate Micah Parsons 12th overall in 2020. He started 63 games in four seasons, recording 256 combined tackles, 52.5 sacks, and 9 forced fumbles. 4 fumble recoveries, 3 pass deflections, and one touchdown.
