Buffalo Bills fans knew the moment Josh Allen and his teammates could not win against the Denver Broncos that Sean McDermott would face a lot of heat.
Time and again, the franchise has stuck with the head coach despite calls for him to be fired, as some questionable decisions led to the team losing several important and winnable games. Then, a few hours after many were still sympathetic to the superstar quarterback after his teary-eyed post-game presser, the franchise did what Bills fans dreaded and fired McDermott.
This concludes his nine-year stint with the team, as the organization has decided it is time for a different direction, given that Allen is not getting any younger. However, not many were thrilled with this decision.
There’s no way right now that we can say this is the right move because we just don’t know what the next move is… There’s no one available right now… It’s going to be hard to find a coach that is as consistent as Sean McDermott… It’s a dice roll by Buffalo.
Dan Orlovsky said on NFL Live
The ESPN analyst wondered how the Buffalo Bills are going to be sure that their next head coach can continue with the same consistency Sean McDermott operated, while also trying to maximize their quarterback’s prime.

Dan Orlovsky labeled it as a ‘dice roll,’ as no one knows if the franchise is about to take the next step, or struggle enough to force another rebuild.
Mina Kimes cites dearth of quality candidates to question Sean McDermott’s firing
After Dan Orlovsky talked about how the Buffalo Bills were taking a big risk firing Sean McDermott, his fellow NFL Live co-panelist Mina Kimes chimed in with another obstacle the organization will face.

The timing is so weird to me… This year is not the season in which I want to be out there needing to hire an offensive coach… I just don’t think this was the right time to do this.
Mina Kimes said
She stated that it is expected that the franchise will change direction from a defensive-minded coach in their former HC to an offensive-minded coach who can maximize Josh Allen‘s capabilities.

However, this year, the lack of quality candidates is evident. With the likes of Kevin Stefanski off the board, the options are dwindling. Kimes’ words seem to indicate that she is not sure if this was the right year to let go of their best head coach in recent memory.
Instead, they would have been better off waiting to see how it all pans out next year, and then looking for the next offensive genius who can also lead the team as a whole.
Cam Newton believes Josh Allen cost Sean McDermott his job
After Sean McDermott was fired, it came to light that Bills players were surprised by the decision, with some believing the top brass got it wrong. While speaking about the news, Cam Newton said this:
Why are we tiptoeing around the obvious issue here, and it’s the underperforming Josh Allen?… This was supposed to be his year… You had an opportunity to win, and you didn’t… People are losing their jobs because of Josh Allen.

The former league MVP wondered why the blame was not being piled on Josh Allen’s head, as his mistakes clearly stopped his team from advancing to the AFC Championship game.

Newton believes the 29-year-old has yet to show that he is an elite quarterback worthy of being shielded from criticism. Until he improves, Newton reckons more heads will roll.
