Carlos Alcaraz is now a two-time French Open champion. On Sunday (June 8), he recovered from two sets down to clinch a thrilling victory over Jannik Sinner in the longest Roland Garros final in history.

It was his 11th title on the red dirt, and the victory made him the third youngest to take home five Major titles after Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal. He is also the ninth player in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam final after being two sets down.

His next target is to become a three-time winner at Wimbledon. The Spaniard defeated 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in both the previous . Alcaraz so far has three trophies under his belt on the grass (two Wimbledon titles and the 2023 Queen’s Club Championships).

When he was battling with Sinner, among many notable names from different fields sat Andre Agassi on Court Philippe-Chatrier, and clips of his reaction to the tense final did rounds on social media. Agassi later said he thinks Alcaraz’s “best surface to me, shockingly between here and Wimbledon…I would say grass“.

Agassi claimed Alcaraz’s speed on the grass doesn’t diminish much if compared to other players. He then compared the young Spaniard’s game to Djokovic, Nadal, and Roger Federer‘s.

You got to remember- this guy has defensive speed like Novak if not more. He has feel like Federer, you can argue at times, if not more. He has RPMs and pace like Rafa, you could argue, maybe even more. He has to string that stuff together.

Andre Agassi told TNT Sports

Djokovic is the only remaining active member of the legendary trio. He inched closer to his historic 25th Major in Paris, but lost the semifinal to Sinner in straight sets. While Alcaraz is 5-0 in Grand Slam finals, Sinner suffered his career’s first defeat in a final of this category.

For the first time in a Major final, the two young Grand Slam champions faced each other. After his win, Alcaraz improved his head-to-head record over the three-time Grand Slam champion to 8-4. He also holds a 3-1 win-loss record in clay-court matches against Sinner and before Paris, the 22-year-old also beat his arch-rival in the Italian Open final. Alcaraz will end the clay swing with three titles under his belt.

Jannik Sinner reveals what he would do after his French Open defeat

Jannik Sinner will start his preparation for the grass swing and bid for his first Wimbledon title. The main draw of the first tournaments on grass, the Stuttgart Open and the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships ‘s-Hertogenbosch (both ATP 250 events) started on June 9.

Sinner will kick-start his campaign on the surface at the Halle Open, the ATP 500 tournament in Germany. He will bid to defend his title as last year, he went past Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets to capture his career’s first grass-court title. But before starting preparation, he will take a few days off to reset.

Now I need some of my time, I need to take a few days off to prepare myself as best as possible and then obviously be ready for Wimbledon, which will be the next goal. It’s not the time of the season for wasting time, but I need a few days before starting something new.

Sinner will be skipping the Queen’s Club Championships, which starts the same day as the Halle Open. At Wimbledon, Sinner reached the semifinals in 2023, while last year, he lost a five-set semifinal to Daniil Medvedev. The 23-year-old has won just one grass-court title in his career.
