Nike’s Campaign

Prominent sportswear brand Nike is launching a new outfit and footwear for its athletes at the upcoming US Open. The important thing to note here is that Nike has planned to bring back its iconic collections from 1990.

This time at the Flushing Meadows, players, sponsored by Nike, will walk out on the courts wearing Challenge Court design. Tennis fans may remember that it is the same collection that Nike launched 30 years ago in the same event. That time, the poster boy of Nike was none other than one of the legends of the game, Andre Agassi.

The former World No.1 in 1990 made everyone’s jaws drop by wearing the Hot Lava Air Tech Challenge II shoes. Not only shoes, but his overall outfit surprised everyone as such design was new to all. Add to it, Agassi’s long hair, and everything just seemed perfect.

Honoring the legend, Agassi

Andre Agassi from 1990 US Open

The sports apparel giant is going to add the sensational neon outfit that Agassi graced along with fresh colors. It is a unique sort of tribute to the 8-time Grand Slam champion from Nike.

Speaking to Forbes, the American said, “Back in 1990, Nike wanted to push limits and it opted me to do this. At that time, anything that brought a change in thinking was considered a brilliant idea.” Although that look inspired millions, it was not enough for Agassi to lift the US Open trophy, as he lost in the final to Pete Sampras.

Abby Swancutt said, “To recreate the historical design that dates back to 1990 is something to be proud of. We hope that 30 years later, it still connects with fans and audience.”

It is true that Nike will launch new outfit, however, it will already be available to its players from 22nd August onwards when Cincinnati Open begins. It will be interesting to see how the design resonates with the players 30 years down the line!
