Andre Drummond admitted to deliberately missing shots near the rim to stat pad in terms of rebounds.
Andre Drummond
A player’s career is defined by his stats and Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond, who is known as one of the top rebounders of his era, recently revealed a surprising tactic behind his impressive rebounding stats. Drummond admitted to deliberately missing shots near the rim to grab his own rebounds.
Andre Drummond on the “Run Your Race” podcast stated that he used this strategy to cement his place as one of the best rebounders in NBA history. The veteran center holds an impressive career average of 12.4 rebounds per game and has led the league in rebounding four times.
Furthermore, during the podcast, he acknowledged that he didn’t fully grasp the extent of his rebounding abilities until he entered the NBA. His admission of ‘stat padding’ has sparked curiosity among fans about how many of his 3,656 career offensive rebounds were the result of this tactic.

Despite the unconventional strategy, there’s no denying Drummond’s rebounding prowess. At his peak, he averaged up to 16 rebounds per game, and even in the 2023-24 season with the Chicago Bulls, he managed to pull in nine rebounds per game in just 17 minutes of play.
Fans react to Andre Drummond’s admission of stats padding
In a league that is highly competitive, everyone wants an edge over the other. And that has resulted in some players having to needlessly pad their stats sheet to look impressive.
Andre Drummond’s recent admission came as a shock as those that engage in the act don’t usually open up in the way he did. As a result, fans took to social media to talk about with Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese catching a stray. She herself has been accused in the past of missing shots just to get rebounds, reason why she earned the nickname, ‘Queen of Rebounds.’

Shit like this is the reason why I don’t be betting. The whole world watched Trae Young miss a free throw on purpose & muttered “fuck your parlay”. Lesson learned B. https://t.co/WEkgqRGE7M

While the NBA still gets over the shock of the revelation, fans of the 76ers will hope that his addition to the roster will help in the offensive and defensive part of their game, something they lacked last season. The 76ers open the new season with a tough home game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
