IPL 2021: “I support it” – Andre Russell reacts to Shah Rukh Khan’s tweet on KKR’s defeat

Andre Russell
Mumbai Indians (MI) came up with a remarkable comeback in their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) yesterday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. KKR were strolling in a chase of 153, requiring just 31 runs in as many balls. However, the MI bowlers applied the brakes with some tight bowling as they did not let Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik to middle deliveries resulting in a 10-run win.
Russell had earlier been the hero with the ball as he picked up a five-wicket haul in just 2 overs to bowl MI out for 152. Coming in to bowl in the 18th over, Russell kept tempting the batters to go for big shots and had all of them caught. Despite the potentially game-changing performance with the ball, Russell could only score 9 runs in 15 balls in a rather painful stay at the crease and in the death overs at that.
KKR’s co-owner Shah Rukh Khan reacted to the loss tweeting, “Disappointing performance to say the least. Apologies to all the fans!“

Andre Russell spoke at a press conference after the match and reacted to the tweet saying, “Yeah, I support that Tweet but at the end of the day the game of cricket… you are not sure until it’s over. I think we are still confident, we still played some good cricket and I am proud of the boys. You know, we are definitely disappointed but it’s not the end of the world, it’s only the second game and we are going to learn from it.”
He then said, “It was a bit difficult to hit at the end. The guys were bowling cutters, and they were bowling into the wicket. But at the end of the day, we are professionals. Not going to look for any excuses. We should have crossed the line tonight.”
“We know what we can do, and I know what I can do. Unfortunately good finishers like me and DK, we didn’t get bat to ball. If we had got a few boundaries, the game would have been over. We are going to go back to the drawing board. We have been playing some good cricket. It is just about moving from this game and going from strength to strength,” he added.
Speaking of ‘luck, Russell said, “It’s part of the game. Sometimes luck goes your way. Sometimes it doesn’t. At that time, I was looking to rotate the strike, not allow too many dot balls. Once we would have ticked over, we knew we would have been good. I didn’t get any runs, and that’s what built a bit of pressure on me.”
KKR’s next match will be against Royal Challengers Bangalore on the 18th of April.
