Former English cricketer, Andrew Flintoff has been set as the primary choice for the job of England men’s cricket team’s white-ball coach as per reports posted by Inews. With the pressure manifolding upon the current position holder, Matthew Mott, there were rumors of former England captain, Eoin Morgan joining the ranks. However, the latest development where Morgan has taken himself out of the contest makes Flintoff the favorite for the job.

As Mott is slowly heading toward his exit, reports stated that Rob Key, England’s director of cricket pointed out Morgan to be his replacement. However, the latter has publicly snuffed out all speculations about this development while clarifying that he is currently enjoying his role as the cricket analyst with Sky Sports.

Going by the reports of Inews, Flintoff who had a life-threatening car accident in 2022 is in talks with one of his close friends, and Rob Key will possibly be returning to helm the England cricket team as their boss. Things turned ugly for Mott when England were stripped off two of their world championships, first the ODI World Cup back in 2023 which was played in India followed by the T20 World Cup, crashing out of the fray with a defeat against India in the semi-finals.

Flintoff’s last stint in cricket came way back in 2015 when he was a part of the Brisbane Heat in that year’s Big Bash League. His last appearance in the international circuit came in 2009 when he donned the English Test threads against Australia in the Oval while his last appearance in ODIs came in April 2009 against West Indies.

Here is what Stuart Broad had to say about Andrew Flintoff as a possible candidate for England’s white-ball coach

Flintoff has been handed his first role as a coach for the Northern Superchargers in the latest edition of the Hundred. He was a part of the English backroom for the 2024 T20 World Cup. He has been backed by Stuart Broad to be the future coach of England, especially after bagging the coaching role in the Hundred.

For him to go into a changing room and hear him speak about the style he wants them to play is really exciting. Ultimately, he has ended up as one of the coaches of The Hundred franchises, I’m sure with half an eye on building him towards being an international coach in the future.
Stuart Broad said in a press-conference for The Hundred

Going by the reports of Inews, alongside Andrew Flintoff, Mr. Cricket, Michael Hussey who was a part of England’s World Cup-winning squad in 2022, is also in contention of being a part of England’s new coaching entourage.
