This season has witnessed players on both the ATP and WTA decide to take a break from the court due to injuries. The likes of Elina Svitolina, Paula Badosa, and Jack Draper have all ended their 2025 season due to that. Andrey Rublev has revealed that he might join them but because of form rather than injuries like others.
The former top 10 stars have been among the players who have opened about their mental health struggles on the court. He has also admitted that he was depressed at some point in his career during a rough patch. But this season has not been about struggles with his mental health or depression but his performance on the court.
The Russian star has failed to be consistent on the court since winning the Qatar Open in February after beating Jack Draper in the final. He has managed to reach only one final after Qatar, and that came at the Hamburg Open in May; however, he lost the title to Italian star Flavio Cobolli in straight sets.
Rublev’s best run in a Grand Slam this season came at the French Open, Wimbledon Championship, and the US Open, reaching the round of 16 of each of them before crashing out. He lost to Jannik Sinner on the Clay major event in Paris and then to Carlos Alcaraz at the All England Club in London.
He has won only one match since the US Open, and within that period, he played in three tournaments. During an interview with Russian outlet Tennis Bolshoi, Rublev revealed his feelings on tour, adding that he hopes to take a pause from competing on tour as he wants to stop thinking about tennis:
I’m too worn out, too exhausted, too… burnt out, so I definitely need a break. But thank God, off the court I’m feeling really good, better and better. So it’s just a matter of time before it shows on the court as well. I just need a pause. But we decided to at least finish the season somehow and then just take a pause, however long it takes, whether it’s weeks, a month or more. Just take a pause, stop thinking, and take a rest from tennis.
This is the first year since 2022 that Rublev has been outside the Top 10. He’s currently ranked World No.17 in ATP rankings, just days after crashing out of the Vienna Open in the first round after losing to British star Cameron Norrie. He will be hoping to get a long run at the Paris Masters, which will be his final tournament this year.
Andrey Rublev earns his first win since September at the Rolex Paris Masters
Andrey Rublev secured his first victory in over a month on tour at the Rolex Paris Masters. The defeated Jacob Fearnley in Paris to mark his first match win since reaching the fourth round of the US Open. He currently holds an 8-8 win-loss record in ATP Masters 1000 level this season, a poor record for the 12th seed.

He cruised to an easy first set win against British star Fearnley 6-1 before winning back-to-back games to lead 2-0 in the second set. But the British qualifier responded immediately, breaking the Russian star for the first time in the match to draw level 2-2. Pressure was mounting on Rublev as he seemed to be throwing his good lead away.
However, he composed himself in the major moments of the second set and broke the British star in the nick of time to win the tie 6-1, 6-4. During the course of the match, Rublev converted five of his 10 break points and benefitted from 11 double faults from his opponent. It was the first meeting between Rublev and Fearnley on tour.
Rublev will now face Learner Tien in the second round of the Paris Masters. Currently, their head-to-head record stands at 1-1, with Tien beating the World No.17 at the Washington Open before Rublev earned his revenge at the Cincinnati Open a few weeks later.
