Daniil Medvedev recently weighed in on the ongoing controversy about the Andrey Rublev-umpire interaction. Even though that incident took place a month ago, it continues to make rounds on the internet, as reporters ask every other player for their reaction.

In Dubai, Andrey Rublev was defaulted from the tournament after shouting at a line umpire over a wrong call. The Russian was defaulted and stripped of his points and earnings for that tournament. However, upon appealing against it, he got his points back but still had to pay a hefty fine.

In a recent interview with the Russian Newsletter Express.ru, Rublev’s best friend acknowledged the complexity of this situation as he shared his views on it. Medvedev feels that there was no right side to this incident and found it not worthy enough to shout at a judge and get disqualified. Having said that, the Russians also bashed the supervisors for not going through the footage of the situation, and taking a decision by themselves.

I think that in some sense there was not a right side to it, since Andrey himself knows that it is not worth shouting at the judge. If he had not been disqualified, then it turns out that anyone could do this. Although, in principle, sometimes everyone does this,

Playing cards from the age of 12, the two have crossed paths too many times. Despite the wins and losses, their relationship remained strong, and ultimately, it was easy for Medvedev to choose Rublev as his daughter’s godfather.

We've come a long way together. We played cards from the age of 12, and found ourselves in different tournaments, in different situations. Some performed a little better, some a little worse - but this did not affect our relationship in any way. In the end, this friendship will probably last forever. It's never entirely known, but let's hope. In principle, choosing a godfather was not too difficult for me,
said Daniil Medvedev as he stood by his decision to make Rublev his daughter’s godfather.

Their friendship and tennis form continue to be strong as both the Russians are on the Top 10 player list. With the clay season started the two best friends may face each other at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters. If they play their cards right, then they can meet only in the finals.
