Andrey Rublev had a breakthrough season last year, winning five ATP titles which was the most for any player. The Russian continued with his impressive performances this year as he reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2021 and also claimed the Rotterdam Open title.

Currently, the Russian is playing at an ATP 500 event in Dubai. Seeded second at Dubai Open, Rublev defeated Taylor Fritz on Wednesday to move into the quarterfinals. With his victory in the last 16 clash, Rublev marked his 22nd consecutive win in ATP 500 tournaments, moving past Andy Murray’s tally of 21 wins.

He remains on the second spot for most consecutive ATP 500 events, and is six wins behind Roger Federer’s tally of 28 wins.

His 22 match winning streak started way back in September last year, as he lifted the Hamburg Open, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the finals. The tournament was played on clay courts, in lead up to the French Open. During the indoor hard court season last year, Rublev won back to back ATP 500 titles in Petersburg and Vienna.

After reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open last month, the Russian lifted the Rotterdam Open title a few weeks ago, defeating Marton Fucsovics in the final. He suffered a minor hiccup last week, when he lost in the semifinals of the Doha Open, however it was an ATP 250 event, which meant his winning streak was still alive.

So far in Dubai this week, Andrey Rublev has defeated Emil Ruusuvuori and Taylor Fritz to progress into the last eight, where he will face the Hungarian, Marton Fucsovics.
