Andy Murray accepts wildcard for Miami Open

Andy Murray accepts wildcard for Miami Open

Andy Murray 2013 Miami Open

Andy Murray, who missed last week’s Dubai Championships due to the birth of his fourth child, with wife Kim, will be returning to action next week at the Miami Open. Murray has accepted a wildcard to the event that he has won twice before in 2009 and 2013. Murray is a three time Grand Slam winner and a two time Olympic gold medalist.

Unfortunately, his career hit a roadblock when he underwent two surgeries on the hip, in two years, 2018 and 2019, because of hip troubles. Now he is slowly making his way back and at 33 he still has age on his side.

One who doesn’t have age on his side is the defending champion, who has already withdrawn from the event, Roger Federer. Federer who turned 39, returned to action on the tennis court with the Doha Open but things didn’t turn out the way he expected it to. After that event, has already withdrawn from Miami and also the Dubai Open. It’s still unclear where Federer will be playing next.

Andy Murray has found support from former player and now Miami Open tournament director James Blake. Blake who himself played with a bad back, which frequently broke down, understands the kind of effort it takes to get back on court after injury.

Murray has not only suffered from injuries but also had some bad luck too. He was all set to compete in the Australian summer, but he had to pull out of that due to him testing positive for Covid 19. Murray also admitted at the time that sitting at home and watching other players play was very difficult for him.
