Due to a persistent hip injury, two time Wimbledon champion, Andy Murray has not been able to perform at his bestever since he picked up the injury in 2017 following his year-end World No.1 ranking in 2016. Murray has still not come back as good as how he was in 2016. His most recent upset came against Swiss star, Stan Wawrinka in the opening round of Roland Garros.

That defeat seemed very casual on Murray’s part which led to attract some serious questions from former seven time Grand Slam champion, Mats Wilander regarding Murray taking wildcards away from young players.

Murray, who stated that he hopes to receive a wildcard entry for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, took a subtle dig at Wilander’s comments in an interview recently. “Obviously as of right now, I wouldn’t get into the Olympics so I would have to ask for a wildcard, which I know there’s a few people out there that think I shouldn’t be getting any more,” said Murray.

With the Tokyo Olympics postponed to 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, Murray stated that he hopes to receive a wildcard for his prestigious event. Currently ranked No.131, the three time Grand Slam champion might get a wildcard if he remains under the top-300 rankings until June next year.

Besides the Tokyo Olympics, the British player desires to make a comeback with Roger Federer at the Australian Open and even at the Wimbledon championships hopefully. But, the Olympics remain to be his top priority as he aims for another medal at the international multi-sport event which will begin on 23rd July next year.
