Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu are currently in different stages of their careers. While the former has become a standout player in the men’s circuit, the latter (after having started remarkably) has struggled with form and fitness issues of late. More recently, Andy Murray’s brother Jamie Murray has shared his honest thoughts on the two Brit tennis stars.

Draper has excelled on the court since his breakthrough season last year, when he reached his first Grand Slam semi-finals. The British star also reached his career-high ranking of World No.4 this year and then claimed his first Masters 1000 title of his career. He also reached the final of the Madrid Open – his best clay-court run.

On the other hand, Raducanu has struggled on the court since her US Open triumph way back in 2021. This season, her best run came at the Miami Open, where she won four consecutive matches to reach the quarter-finals. At that same tournament, she earned her first top 10 win of the season after beating Emma Navarro in the second round.

Raducanu and Draper ended the grass-court season without winning a title. However, the latter had a better run at the Queen’s Club Championships, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to Jiri Lehecka in three sets. Raducanu went to the last eight in Queen’s before losing to Qinwen Zheng.

During an interview with The Mirror, Jamie Murray hoped Raducanu would have a good North American hard-court swing, but stressed that she would not have the same success as Draper, who’s currently ranked World No.5:

Hopefully she goes and has a good summer in America. But it’s not like Jack – he was number four in the world [at Wimbledon]. He’s putting results together all the time, he’s proven that he’s world-class and a top player. That’s miles away from being at the level that Jack is at. Of course she had an unbelievable result at the US Open. But she obviously needs to win a lot more matches to be talked about as a contender for these tournaments.

Jamie Murray then added that Draper and Raducanu are in different places in their careers, while stressing that the latter has been shrouded with hype since winning the 2021 US Open:

But of course, the hype is obviously massive based on her story of winning the US Open a few years ago. Not to talk badly about Emma, but Jack is in a completely different place in his career than where she is.

Raducanu is set to open her North America swing at the DC Open, which starts on July 21. Meanwhile, Draper has chosen to opt out of the event, while aiming to return to the court at the Canadian Open in Montreal.

Tim Henman says Emma Raducanu has been “a much better player” since winning the US Open

Emma Raducanu played in four clay-court tournaments this season, the most in a calendar year in her career. Historically, she has often skipped tournaments on that surface to train hard for the grass-court season. But since her partnership with Mark Petchey, she has been getting better results on the court.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Tim Henman revealed that Raducanu has been a better player than she was since winning the 2021 US Open:

She’s a much better player than she was in 2021 because she’s had four more years of experience and now she’s started to build more of a team around her. She’s been competing so much more this year, which therefore emphasizes the physical resilience that she’s got because she was always getting injuries.

Raducanu dropped to World No.45 in the WTA rankings. She only managed to reach the third round in 2025 before losing to World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets.
