British legend Andy Murray made his debut at Wimbledon in 2005. He is now very close to retiring from the sport after 20 years of playing professional tennis. On account of this, he penned an emotional note to his younger self before bursting into the scene in his first Wimbledon.
Murray came knocking for the Wimbledon title thrice, reaching the semifinals in 2009, 2010, and 2011. In 2012, the British star played one of his best tennis but was defeated by a very technically superior Roger Federer. He went on to avenge the defeat at the London Olympics men’s tennis final less than four weeks later.
Murray won the US Open that year, consolidating his reputation as a big winner. He followed it up by becoming the first British player to win the SW19 title after 77 years. Murray won it again in 2016. Injury has been a big struggle for the 37-year-old in the past five years. He has failed to get past the third round of Wimbledon in the last five editions.
For this year, he will not play in the singles of the tournament but will compete in the doubles and mixed doubles. Hence, commemorating the moment, Murray made a ceremonial note addressing his young self.
Dear Andy, a quick note ahead of your first Wimbledon. Number one: Get a haircut. Number two: Get some clothes that fit. And three: Try to enjoy it, it will be gone before you know it.Andy Murray said
Murray partnered with his brother Jamie Murray in the doubles at this year’s Wimbledon. The brothers, however, suffered an early exit in the first round itself.

Andy Murray to partner with Emma Raducanu for the mixed doubles at Wimbledon
Andy Murray will partner with fellow British superstar Emma Raducanu in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon. The British star will receive his farewell as he plays in his final Wimbledon nearly 20 years after making his debut. The 3-time Grand Slam champion decided he was not fit to play in the singles at Wimbledon following his back surgery.
Murray narrated that after practice, he contacted Raducanu’s coach about a possible mixed doubles partnership and was quick to receive a positive reply.
I was chatting to my team and discussing mixed, so I messaged her coach and asked if he thought it might be something she’d be up for doing. He said it was worth asking, so I did. Thankfully, I got a quick reply. She said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it’. That was it.Andy Murray said via BBC
Murray will play his final match at the Paris Olympics. The two-time gold medalist will also partner with his fellow countryman Dan Evans in the men’s doubles of the event.
