British tennis legend Andy Murray received a warm welcome at Wimbledon for his final appearance alongside his brother Jamie. They aimed to make history in their first doubles match together at this prestigious tournament. However, the Centre Court crowd’s support couldn’t lift them to victory.

Andy, a former singles champion plagued by back issues, opted for doubles and mixed doubles this year. After the men’s doubles defeat, the two-time Wimbledon champion was overcome with emotions while speaking about playing doubles with his brother.

It was really special. We never got the chance to do it before. The way things worked out.. it was a race against time to try to get out here. It wasn’t easy today. But I’m glad we were able to get out here and do this one time together.
Andy Murray said in his post-match interview

The atmosphere was electric as the match began, reminiscent of a final rather than a first-round game. Despite Andy’s efforts, a troublesome back injury flared up early on, but he soldiered on.

The match was closely contested, with both pairs showing skill. Despite a promising start where they broke their opponents’ serve, the Murrays couldn’t maintain their momentum and eventually faced defeat.

Andy Murray to play with Emma Raducanu in Mixed Doubles

Andy Murray lost his men’s doubles match on Thursday. But this isn’t the first time the fans have seen the Scottish legend at Wimbledon. The former World No.1 will play mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu in the first round on Saturday. They got a wildcard for the event.

Murray wants to make the most of his final appearance at the All-England Club. In 2019, he played mixed doubles with Serena Williams, and they reached the third round. He and Raducanu have known each other since they played in a Battle of the Brits event in 2020.

Murray had Raducanu at the top of his list for mixed doubles. She has played only one tour-level doubles match before. This will be her first Grand Slam in doubles. Murray thinks she will do well in this format.

On Tuesday morning, the three-time Grand Slam champion decided to pull out of the singles. He couldn’t recover in time from the back injury he sustained at Queen’s Club Championships. Murray will now turn his attention to mixed doubles to make the most of his Wimbledon run.
