British tennis legend Andy Murray is once again injured and this time, it is even more concerning. The 36-year-old had to retire from his second-round match at the Queen’s Club Championships just after five games because he felt problems with the right side of his back. Murray later revealed the details of the injury and claimed that he felt a loss of power in his right leg.

While the Briton already has had problems with his back, this was something new for Murray. The three-time Grand Slam champion claims that he has never felt a lack of strength or no coordination in his legs. Murray pointed to his visible struggles during the match against Jordan Thompson and talked about the severity of the injury.

Obviously, it wasn't great. I have been struggling with my back for a while. I had loss of power in my right leg. So loss of motor control, had no coordination. Yeah, couldn't move...During my pre-match warmup, I was pretty uncomfortable, and then I walked up the stairs just before going on the court, I didn't have the usual, just normal strength in my right leg. It was not a usual feeling.
Andy Murray said about his injury.

Notably, Murray has had issues with his back for over a decade now. The 36-year-old has undergone several surgeries and has kept on coming back to the court despite all the setbacks. However, this time, Murray is completely unaware of what is the process ahead for him.

I don't know exactly what the problem is. I just know that this is not something — I hadn't experienced that before. [I have been] dealing with the back pain today, yesterday, and for the last 10, 11 years of my career, but I have never experienced that before. So I don't know what the procedure will be or what to expect, really.

Andy Murray is trapped in the injury-recovery loop

Andy Murray has had his share of struggles in his career and injury-related problems have been a major part of it. Now as the Briton is reaching the fag end of his career, they are becoming more frequent. The 36-year-old is himself tired of being stuck in this injury-recovery loop.

Murray says that while others might see things as fine from the outside, it has been the opposite. The Briton says that it has been tough for him physically as well as mentally. Murray has now started to realize that tennis is a “really, really hard sport”.

It is worth mentioning that the 2024 season has been tougher for Murray on the injury front. He hurt his ankle in Miami and then missed out on the action for a couple of months. Now that he came back for the grass-court swing, the Briton is again down and out with injury. The chances of Murray playing at Wimbledon also look bleak as of now.
