The doubles pairing of Murray and Evans has been one of the storylines of the Paris Olympics so far. The British duo saved five consecutive match points in their opening round and now have overcome another two to reach the quarterfinals.
In the last eight, Murray and Evans will battle either the third-seeded Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul or the Dutchmen Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer.
Andy Murray’s final chapter just got more exciting
Fans of Andy Murray haven’t had much to celebrate for seven years since his hip surgery. Despite his return in late 2018, the former World No.1 looked slower, and many thought he wouldn’t reach his previous level.
In the past few years, Murray has been playing with a metal hip, recommended by the Bryan brothers. However, his singles form didn’t return to the level that earned him three Grand Slams and a World No.1 ranking.
After the spinal injury at Queen’s Club, many expected the end of Murray’s career. However, like a champion, Murray tried till the last minute and made himself available for the men’s doubles draw with Jamie Murray.
Confirming that the Paris Olympics will be the final chapter of his professional career, his ending couldn’t be more fitting. Together with Dan Evans, Murray has saved seven match points in two matches, bringing nostalgia to tennis fans who remember his dramatic wins at SW19.
In his farewell ceremony at Wimbledon, Murray said he wants to be remembered as someone who always gave his best. With what tennis fans have seen in the past few days, those words couldn’t be more poetic.
