Andy Murray is left heartbroken over the death of his pet dog Rusty. On November 24, the Brit took to Instagram to pay tribute to the border terrier without whom his house felt empty.

On Instagram, Murray posted a picture of Rusty and also shared a quote from A.A. Milne‘s ‘Winnie the Pooh.’ Murray wrote how Rusty used to annoy the Murray family a lot but was so gentle to the kids.

You were the most loyal and protective companion our family could have wished for. You were so patient and gentle with the kids and we all learned so much from you. The house feels empty without you in it. The noise you made when you wanted a plate to lick or a biscuit to chew on or when you wanted anything for that matter was infuriating at times!

Fans in the comment section also agreed that the hardest part of owning a pet is the final goodbye. This is not the first time Murray mourned over his pet. His first border terrier, Maggie, died in 2022, while Rusty had been a part of Murray’s family since 2011.

Sometimes I find it hard to unwind after a match or if I’ve had a particularly tough training day, but I love taking them for walks or throwing a ball for them in the garden, or even just sitting with them on the sofa- I find that it helps me relax.

The three-time Grand Slam champion in the meanwhile, has been making headlines for another tennis-related career that no one had anticipated. Post-retirement, he joined his old rival Novak Djokovic‘s team as his head coach.

Murray will be a part of Djokovic’s team till the Australian Open but the decision to extend the partnership will be taken after that Grand Slam event. The 37-year-old Scot played his last match at the 2024 Paris Olympics, while on the ATP Tour, his final match was the first round of doubles he played with brother Jamie Murray at this year’s Wimbledon.
