Jack Draper is regarded as the only British hero who would be able to win the Wimbledon Championships.

Jack Draper has been one of the best players on tour this season. Out of the 36 matches he has featured in this season, he has won 28, losing just eight in the process. Ahead of the Wimbledon Championship, Andy Murray has stated that he doesn’t intend to offer any advice to his fellow countryman on public forums.
With Wimbledon being played on home soil, there is understandably more focus on Draper and all eyes will be on him as he will enter the competition as the fourth seed. In the history of men’s tennis in the Open Era, only one player from Britain has managed to win Wimbledon, and that was Murray, who won it in 2013 and 2016.
Draper will be seeking to follow the British legend’s footsteps at the tournament, but he does not have an excellent record there. He has featured three times in the grass-court Grand Slam main draw, but he has never gotten past the second round on the three occasions. Last year, he lost to Cameron Norrie in straight sets in the second round.
However, he opened his grass-court campaign with an impressive run, reaching the semi-finals before losing to Jiri Lehecka in a nervy three-set match. The World No.4 didn’t compete in any tournament this week as he’s focused on giving his best at the Wimbledon Championship, which begins on June 30.
During an interview with The Guardian, Murray was asked if he had any advice for Draper ahead of the major tournament. The 38-year-old revealed that he doesn’t intend to use the public forum to advise the 23-year-old as he prefers doing that in private:
I try to stay away from that…And if I say, ‘this is what Jack should do’, I’m pretty sure that when he goes to Wimbledon, he will be getting told, ‘Andy said that you should do this’. And sometimes that advice is contrary to what your coach is telling you. But I would obviously speak to him and his coach privately.
Draper’s best run at a Grand Slam event came at the US Open last year. There, he reached the semi-finals before losing to Jannik Sinner. This season, he has had his best run at the Australian Open and French Open, reaching the round of 16 of both tournaments. He would hope to get past his previous best record at Wimbledon.
Andy Murray hails Jack Draper for his impressive form this season
Jack Draper’s best outing this season came while playing at the Indian Wells, where he defeated Holger Rune in straight sets to win his first Masters 1000 title of his career. The British star also reached the Qatar Open final, where he lost to Andrey Rublev. He also impressed at the Madrid Open final against Casper Ruud but failed to win the title.

Despite Andy Murray not advising the British star in public, he took his time to praise the 23-year-old for his impressive form this season. He added that he deserves to be among the top players in the men’s circuit:
I’m not surprised that he’s up there. I trained with him quite a bit when he was younger, and he’s very good. He has a brilliant game. He’s a big guy, lefty, with a big forehand and a really consistent backhand. He also moves really well for a big guy. He just had lots of niggles and various injury issues. But this year he’s been fit for the majority of the season and his ranking is where it should be and where it deserves to be.
Draper also made an exceptional run during the clay season as he reached the quarter-finals of the Italian Open for the first time in his career. However, he was stopped by eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.
