Andy Murray who participated in the Doubles Event at the Rome Masters is happy with his week spent in Rome ahead of his preparation for the upcoming 2021 French Open.
Murray has not been active on tour this year after he tested positive ahead of the 2021 Australian Open and since then has made only 2 appearances on the tour not achieving much success. He played at ATP 250 in Montpellier, losing in the Round of 32 and then played at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam where he went out in the Round of 16.
Murray had travelled to Rome mainly to get some practice with the top ranked players, also ended up playing at the Doubles with fellow British player Liam Broady. The duo won a long 3-setter in the first round but were knocked out in the 2nd round in straight sets.
Andy however was happy with his week in Rome getting to practice with top players, which included his session with World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
“I got four practices with top-20 players, which is good. If we hadn’t got into the doubles I maybe would have got one more before heading off but I got a couple of matches instead,” said Murray while speaking to SkySports.
“It was positive, I’m happy I came over here,” says Andy Murray about his week in Rome
Andy Murray was fairly happy with his week in Rome after his practice sessions and also matches in the Doubles which he initially had not planned. Speaking after his Doubles loss, Murray said, “Practise has been good, today didn’t feel that great on the court, I didn’t play that well in comparison to yesterday. The other guys served well, which made it difficult.”
“But it was good to feel what it was like in match conditions again after quite a long period for me. It was positive, I’m happy I came over here, learned a bit about my game and where I’m at. It’s totally different training conditions over here and being around the tournament like this than it is at home so (I’m) glad we came to do it,” added Murray.
Andy Murray will now be at Lyon Open 2021 or Geneva Open 2021 as he continues his preparation for the French Open 2021.
