Andy Murray made a mishap in the bunker of the golf course in Scotland after misfiring a shot. The former World No.1 featured in the ongoing Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, making his debut at the championship.

Since hanging up his racket, Murray has turned his attention to playing golf and spending time with his family. In fact, for the past two years, he has featured in the last two editions of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

He partnered with professional golfers and Ryder Cup winners Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre, and Eddie Pepperell. Murray and Pepperell had two finishes on the opening day, seven under par on the first 18 holes.

During the course of the tournament, Murray will play on three golf courses, Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, and St. Andrews. However, during the competition on October 3, Murray was in a bunker and was set to hit a shot, but the British legend whiffed his shot and then laughed at his hilarious attempt.

The video of his misfired shot went viral on social media, garnering thousands of reactions from both golf and tennis fans. Murray also posted the clip on Instagram, admitting it was a funny and bad game from him. Despite the whiffed shot, Murray showed his golfing skills and has been praised by many golf legends for his improvement on the course.

Murray, who won three Grand Slam titles during his illustrious career, is regarded as the best British player of his generation. In fact, he became the first British man to win the Wimbledon Championships in 77 years, when he won it in 2013. However, a few years before retiring from the sport, he began to struggle with fitness concerns and injuries.

In fact, he didn’t compete in a singles match for a month before quitting the sport, only featuring in the doubles category. At the Paris Olympics, he played his final professional career match alongside Dan Evans. The duo lost to American stars Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz in straight sets in the quarter-finals of the Championship.

The reason why Murray misfired his shot during the Championship on Friday (October 3) was due to the windy conditions of the course. During an interview with Golf Channel via ATP in Scotland, Murray revealed that it has been an amazing experience competing at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship:

It’s been great. For an amateur golfer to get the chance to play alongside these guys, it’s an amazing experience for us and all the pros have been unbelievably patient and dealt with us really well. So it’s been amazing and delighted to be here.

Murray has been largely absent from professional tennis since his split with Novak Djokovic in April. The former World No.1 and the Serbian legend parted ways after a run of three consecutive losses on tour. Their best outing came at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami, where Djokovic finished as a runner-up after losing to 20-year-old Jakub Mensik in straight sets.
