Andy Reid isn’t ready to quit on the season just yet. Even though the Kansas City Chiefs are 6-6 following their Thanksgiving Day defeat to the Dallas Cowboys, Reid believes they can still qualify for the playoffs by winning their remaining games.

Currently, the Chiefs are just outside the wildcard spots and part of the playoff bubble. A couple of wins in and slip-ups from teams around them would push the Chiefs into the playoff spots.

It’s easier said than done, of course. They needed the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars to lose in Week 13 to gain a sliver of advantage over those two teams. However, the Texans defeated the AFC South leaders, the Indianapolis Colts, while the Jaguars made quick work of the lowly Tennessee Titans in Music City.

Andy Reid isn’t losing hope. As recent history suggests, it’s foolish to write off the Chiefs when they are still mathematically eligible for January football. Speaking with Matt Derrick of Sports Radio 810 WHB, Reid claimed that the Chiefs are hungry to win games.

I’m telling you [Matt Derrick] we’re going to go after you every game. That’s how we roll. We’re going to try to tickle your tonsils on every play, every game. That’s the attitude we’re coming in with.

The run game is an area of concern for sure, but the Chiefs’ Achilles heel in 2025 has been the number of penalties the defense conceded each game. According to NFL Penalties, the Chiefs’ 86 total penalties from 13 games are among the worst in the league.

Moreover, the Chiefs went 11-0 in one-score games last year. It’s a different story in 2025. Reid’s men are 1-6 in seven one-score games.

Every season is different. This is a sport of challenges, that’s what it is. It’s probably a microcosm of life, as you look at it. There’s always challenges.

The Chiefs have an uphill task of qualifying for the 2025 NFL playoffs

Qualifying for the playoffs is a hard task as it is, but to achieve that same feat within four games sounds like an impossible mountain to climb. The only reason fans and analysts are hopeful because it’s the Chiefs, a team that has played five of the last six Super Bowls, winning three of them.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes ranks third with 3238 passing yards, 64.6% pass completion, and has thrown 22 touchdowns. 36-year-old Travis Kelce leads the receivers with 719 yards from 59 receptions and has scored 5 touchdowns. As long as these two are healthy, and Andy Reid is calling the shots from the sidelines, the Chiefs have a shot at playing postseason football.

Once again, it is a task of mammoth proportions. The Chiefs not only need to win every game, but they also have to do it by taking down the 10-2 Broncos, 7-5 Texans, and 8-4 Chargers.

According to The Athletic, prior to the Texans’ win against the Colts on Sunday, the Chiefs’ chance of qualifying for the playoffs was 47%. It dropped to 39% once the referee blew the final whistle. If the Chiefs beat the Texans in week 14, their chances of qualifying will jump to 52%.

Despite the slump, the Chiefs are overwhelming favorites to defeat the Texans at Arrowhead Stadium. Mahomes has a 3-1 record against the AFC South franchise. In the Week 16 fixture last year, Mahomes threw 28 completions for 260 yards and 1 passing touchdown and 1 rushing touchdown.
