Andy Reid chose Thanksgiving Day to convey a crucial social message to the nation. Despite suffering a defeat at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs did not forget his duty as a global citizen.
Coach Reid was tasked with ending the Cowboys’ fifty-year dominance against the Chiefs in Dallas. He won the last fixture back in 2021, but the present scenario is very different.
The Chiefs stagnated at 5-5 after losing to the Denver Broncos in week 11. It was the first time the AFC West franchise found itself in such a predicament since Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback.
Mahomes orchestrated a famous win the following week against the high-flying Indianapolis Colts and arrived in Dallas as the favorite to secure a seventh win of the year. Mahomes put on an impressive show with 4 touchdowns and 261 yards, but the Chiefs’ defense couldn’t hold up.
The Chiefs were flagged 10 times for 119 yards, turning manageable offensive situations into third-and-long scenarios. On defense, penalties repeatedly gave Dallas extra opportunities to prolong the drives and score important touchdowns. The Chiefs lost 28-31.
In the post-match press conference, Coach Reid singled out the Chiefs’ defensive struggles as one of the main reasons for the loss. He said:
Bottom line is we’re having too many penalties. We’ve got to make sure we take care of that on both sides of the ball… No excuses with it. We’ll work on cleaning it up.
Then Reid switched his tone completely. From discussing the game, he addressed the world outside of the confines of sports. He presented Thanksgiving Day as a celebration for the masses and requested everyone to choose humanity over divisive forces that try to create a rift. Reid quipped:
We appreciate the fans who came out here [in Dallas] and cheered us on… There was a lot of red in the stands, and Thanksgiving, and it is Thanksgiving, so that’s bigger than probably bigger than any of this. It’s a nice microcosm of how the world should be, where its competition and people killing each other and doing all those crazy things go on. All religions, all races out here, enjoy an event. If we are gonna learn one thing from it, as a country, then that’s it right there.
I will forever love Andy Reid for EVERYTHING he’s done for this franchise… but what was this intro for the post game presser? World peace? Lol pic.twitter.com/NuVjgKNpu5

Andy Reid provided an unfortunate update about a rookie offensive lineman
Josh Simmons missed several weeks due to issues related to his family before returning to the starting roster earlier this month. When he plays, the Chiefs usually end up winning the game, and he looked solid the entire time he was on the field against the Cowboys.

However, Reid had to take Simmons off after the Ohio State graduate hurt his hand. The moment he went off, the Chiefs’ offensive line looked shaky and unsettled. Mahomes took 2 sacks from Cowboys’ pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney and nearly threw two picks.

After the game, Reid noted that “Simmons hurt his wrist.” Pete Sweeney, the Kansas City Chiefs’ beat writer, tweeted that Simmons left Arrowhead Stadium wearing a sling on his arm.

ESPN‘s Nate Taylor backed up the news through a separate tweet.
Can confirm, per source, that Josh Simmons sustained a dislocated and fractured left wrist during today's game. https://t.co/2sSjsO6qN4

The nature of Simmons’s injury is unclear until the doctor relays his prognosis. For the Chiefs’ sake, Simmons needs to come back healthier. If he misses time on the sidelines, then the Chiefs could face serious issues at the left tackle position.
