Andy Roddick compared Carlos Alcaraz with that of the Big 3 and feels that whenever anyone talks about the current best youngster in the tennis fraternity, Alcaraz’s name comes instantly into their head.

Alcaraz is in Beijing for the China Open and will play his first match on Friday (September 27) against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Before the China Open, the Spaniard helped Team Europe break Team World’s winning streak by becoming the champion for the first time since 2021. He has been phenomenal this season, winning two Grand Slams (French Open and Wimbledon) and an Olympic silver medal.

I was amazed at how many players, without even flinching, just said: the best top-level player in tennis right now is Carlos Alcaraz. Without even a hiccup. No flinching. The general feeling seems to be that once he finds it and has it, you have a massive problem. It’s kind of curtains in a way for him. It’s kind of the thing that we saw with the Big Three, and now they’re discussing Carlos in that same light, and he proved them right.

Andy Roddick said on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast

If Alcaraz reaches the final in Beijing, he could face defending champion Jannik Sinner, against whom he leads 5-4 in their head-to-head encounters. The World No. 3 is 43-9 this season and has won three titles.

Carlos Alcaraz doesn’t think Rafael Nadal will retire after Davis Cup

Rafael Nadal has signed up for the Davis Cup and Carlos Alcaraz is excited to play with his idol again. The 14-time French Open champion, just a few days before the start of the Laver Cup, withdrew from the tournament due to fitness reasons. Alcaraz, ahead of kick-starting his China Open campaign, said that he missed Nadal in the Laver Cup, but he is not foreseeing the tennis legend bidding his farewell after the Davis Cup.

I don’t want to think that it’s a potential last dance for him in Malaga. I just want to…enjoy seeing him on court as much as I can.

Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference

Before the Laver Cup, Alcaraz shockingly lost in the second round of the US Open, just like Novak Djokovic, who failed to make it to the fourth round for the first time in 18 years after his third-round elimination. Djokovic and Alcaraz were the finalists at the Paris Olympics where the 21-year-old, who made his debut in the quadrennial event, won the silver medal.
