Aryna Sabalenka has been one of the most outstanding WTA players over the years. Since winning her maiden singles Grand Slam in Melbourne last year, she has become a serious contender for big titles. On account of that, American legend Andy Roddick believes she is a Hall of Famer because of her record.
Sabalenka became No.1 doubles before doing so in the singles in September 2023. The Belarusian won the 2019 US Open and 2021 Australian Open doubles alongside her partner Elise Mertens. Last year, she triumphed in Melbourne, winning her first singles major title. She went on to defend it finely this year.
The 26-year-old has won a fantastic five Masters 1000 titles. Two in Madrid, two in Wuhan, and the other in Qatar. She now has 14 titles in total. Recently, she was supposed to earn her 15th but lost it to Iga Swiatek in the final of the Madrid Open 2024.
Considering all of such accolades, former US Open champion Roddick lauds Sabalenka’s incredible record.
So Sabalenka now is someone who has won two Slams, has been No.1 in the world, won a bunch of Masters 1000s. She's a Hall of Famer. She just is. My dumba** she's in like simply.Andy Roddick said on his podcast show (Served with Andy Roddick)
Sabalenka will be hoping to continue in her outstanding form and prove Roddick right. So far this season, however, she has only one title to her name.
Aryna Sabalenka to face tricky test in Rome, after Madrid Open disappointment
Aryna Sabalenka will be hoping to forget Madrid’s disappointment as she heads into the Italian Open in Rome. The Belarusian is yet to win in Rome. Before the Madrid Open, she failed to get past the quarterfinals of four tournaments. However, she can pull up surprises in Rome.
She will face either the Chinese Wang Yafan or a qualifier in her opening match in Rome. She is projected to face tricky opponents like Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in the third round. She will likely take on tough Elina Svitolina in the fourth round.
As per the draw, Sabalenka is also expected to face either Jelena Ostapenko or Ons Jabeur in the last eight of the tournament with a likely Elena Rybakina awaiting her in the semifinals. It will be a difficult test for Belarusian, but she will be expected to scale through if one has a short look at her history.
