This announcement has left fans and tennis enthusiasts pretty excited. During their career, Andy Roddick and Rafael Nadal met ten times on court, with the Spaniard winning seven of those meets. They last met on court in 2011 at the US Open quarterfinals.

Roddick enjoyed a fairly successful tennis career. He won 32 singles titles, including a major at the 2003 US Open and five Masters events. He led the United States to the 2007 Davis Cup title. He retired from singles in 2012.

Rafael Nadal’s career post retirement

Rafael Nadal became the second member of the Big 3 to bid farewell to tennis following Roger Federer‘s retirement at the 2022 Laver Cup. The 38-year-old retired at last year’s Davis Cup in Malaga after Spain’s defeat against the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.

Nadal had a phenomenal tennis career, amassing 22 Grand Slam titles, the second most in men’s tennis. Since his retirement, Nadal has focused a lot on the growth of his tennis academy, with the announcement of a new tennis center opening in Marbella. The center will be the seventh sports complex since the foundation of his academy in 2016 in Manacor, Mallorca.

Post-retirement Nadal has also focused on other roles as well. In December 2024, he visited Jeddah for the first time for the Next Gen ATP Finals. This visit was a part of his role as the ambassador of Saudi Tennis.

After his retirement, Nadal attended his first award ceremony at the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo’s annual Gala. He was awarded the Excellent Trophy at the 77th Gala of Mundo Deportivo. Nadal also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Salamanca recently along with Nobel laureate Emmanuelle Charpentier.
