Andy Roddick has stated that he is not worried about Carlos Alcaraz‘s failure to defend his Queen’s Club title and believes that it will not have any impact on how he performs on grass courts.
Following his title win at the 2024 French Open, Alcaraz took part in the Queen’s Club Championship, where he beat Francisco Cerundolo before losing to Jack Draper in the second round. He will now head to Wimbledon, where is the defending champion.
In the latest episode of the Served With Andy Roddick podcast, Roddick discussed Alcaraz‘s quick exit at the Queen’s Club and defended the Spaniard from any potential criticism of his performance on grass courts.
He [Carlos Alcaraz] didn’t need the grass preparation like he did last year. He knows how to play on this surface. He is the defending Wimbledon champion. He needed to go get a couple of matches.
Andy Roddick said about Carlos Alcaraz on his podcast.
Roddick also spoke about Jessica Pegula, who made her comeback from injury at the start of the grass swing and won the title in Berlin. He stated that the win would boost her confidence heading into the Championships.
Carlos Alcaraz begins his Wimbledon preparation alongside rival Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have both begun their preparations for this year’s Wimbledon, which is set to get underway on July 1.
Alcaraz is the defending champion at Wimbledon and all eyes are on him to see if he can replicate last year’s run. He has already begun preparation for the tournament with his coaches.
Djokovic, meanwhile, has been on the sidelines since picking up an injury at the French Open. He underwent surgery in Paris and only recently returned to training. Despite being seen practicing on the courts, the Serbian has yet to decide on his Wimbledon participation.
