Carlos Alcaraz, in 2024, complained of fatigue and criticized the ATP schedule several times. But his criticism was downplayed by many, including ATP president Andrea Gaudenzi.

The critics urged the Spaniard to rest during the off-season instead of participating in the exhibition events, which Alcaraz has been playing a lot. Former World No.1 Andy Roddick doesn’t criticize Alcaraz for participating in exhibitions as they offer a huge prize money.

Carlos [Alcaraz], let’s say it how it is, he finished December 6, he had a vacation in the Caribbean with some buddies for a week before he played these exhibitions. He’d already done his relaxation, got in some reps, obviously got paid a lot of money. What other time would we tell somebody to not do their job for a massive paycheck? We’re adults, it’s a business.

Andy Roddick said on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast

Alcaraz ended his season on the ATP Tour after his two matches (singles and doubles) at the Davis Cup in November. In Australia next season, he will be on his quest to accomplish the Career Grand Slam. If he doesn’t have a great campaign, Roddick urged him to not blame it on the schedule.

What I don’t accept is ‘Hey, I didn’t have a long enough off-season’. I don’t want to hear about it in Australia if he’s not feeling great, that’s it. I don’t want to hear about it.

The four-time Grand Slam champion has never progressed beyond the quarterfinals in Melbourne. In 2024, he advanced to the last eight but lost to Alexander Zverev in four sets.

Carlos Alcaraz is set to have a practice session with Jack Draper but it’s canceled

Carlos Alcaraz, following his exhibition matches in New York and Charlotte, started preparing for the 2025 season. He was set to practice with World No. 32 Flavio Cobolli and World No.15 Jack Draper in Spain.

But the Brit was forced to cancel his trip because of an injury. As per reports, Draper, who was advised to practice in warmer conditions to improve his performance in extreme conditions, suffered the injury during his final training session.

The 22-year-old was sick in Australia this year and also vomited on the court during his match against eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the semifinal of the US Open. Alcaraz will now only practice with Cobolli.
