Former World No.1 Andy Roddick recently spent some time with Carlos Alcaraz, playing golf with him when the Spaniard was in the US for the exhibition events. Later, Roddick in his podcast said Alcaraz could find himself in a tough situation.

Alcaraz took his tally of Grand Slam titles to four after he clinched the French Open and Wimbledon this year. The 2022 US Open was his first Major and the next year saw him deny Novak Djokovic accomplishing the Grand Slam by beating him in five sets at Wimbledon.

This season, he became the youngest player to win Majors on all three surfaces when he won the French Open. The 21-year-old again beat Djokovic at the 2024 Wimbledon final. These achievements, as per Roddick, mean Alcaraz has become a ‘celebrity’ and ‘people are thirsty to see him’ and this is why the American thinks the youngster’s scheduling decisions could disappoint some fans.

He’s sort of at the point where he doesn’t want to disappoint anyone, and that’s a tough situation. It really is. He’s going to have to learn how to schedule, how to say no, maybe slightly disappoint someone, sometimes to keep his sanity over time.

Andy Roddick said on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast

Roddick also doesn’t want Alcaraz to complain about the schedule in Australia after participating in exhibition events during the off-season.

Although Federer and Nadal retired, the tennis world saw the emergence of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who are making headlines for their performances. Rublev commented on the situation when he was asked if the two youngsters frustrate him on the courts.

No, not at all. They exploit their potential to the best of their ability, I don’t. I know I still have room for improvement. It all depends on me. I have to focus on myself to try to learn how to use my potential more, and we’ll see what happens.

Andrey Rublev told the French news agency AFP (H/T: The Tennis Gazette)

The Russian has locked horns with World No.1 Sinner nine times but defeated him thrice. But against the World No.2, the 27-year-old is 1-2 in their head-to-head encounter.
