Former World No.1 Andy Roddick has delivered glowing praise for Iga Swiatek’s Wimbledon triumph in July, highlighting that the World No.2’s victory in London was one of the most striking storylines of the season. At the tournament, Swiatek claimed her sixth Grand Slam and first after over a year.
Swiatek arrived in London carrying an unusual doubt about her game as she had performed poorly during the clay-court season. She had historically done well on clay and even won four French Open titles on the surface, but she failed to produce the same result this year, managing to reach the semi-finals of Roland Garros.
In fact, one of her poorest runs of the season came on the red dirt at the Italian Open. There, she crashed out in the third round after losing to Danielle Collins. But after the clay season, the 24-year-old entered the grass-court swing with renewed confidence after reaching her first final of the season at the Bad Homburg Open.
Although she ended up losing the match to Jessica Pegula, it gave her more assurance about her game. She continued with the form at the Wimbledon Championships, delivering a masterclass performance en route to the final. At the championship match, she gave a perfect display, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Amanda Anisimova.
Beyond the results, Swiatek’s victory was very shocking as she had always struggled on the grass court. During the latest episode of the Served with Andy Roddick podcast, the American legend revealed that Swiatek’s triumph at the All England Club in London was the craziest story of the 2025 season:
I think Iga turning her season around at Wimbledon. Like, that was a crazy story. Like, it’s Iga, so we expect great things, and we’ve been preconditioned to her being one of the best, you know, right there with Aryna and Ash Barty, like of her generation. But like, not coming through on clay, looking bad at times on your favorite surface, and then somehow finding a way to be dominant on your worst surface.
Swiatek went on to win her second title of the year at the Cincinnati Open. She had never won the Cincinnati title in her career before August, when she defeated Jasmine Paolini in the final. The World No.2 claimed her final title of the year at the Korean Open after beating Russian star Ekaterina Alexandrova in the championship match.

Iga Swiatek didn’t have an easy draw at the Wimbledon Championships. The Polish star faced Danielle Collins, who had beaten her in the third round of the Italian Open. But during their meeting in Wimbledon, Swiatek earned her revenge against the American star in straight sets, before going on to beat the likes of Clara Tauson, Liudmila Samsonova, and Belinda Bencic.

During the aforementioned conversation, Andy Roddick noted that witnessing Swiatek dismantle Collins early in the tournament shifted her thinking from curiosity to belief, despite the lack of historical evidence suggesting she could dominate the Wimbledon Championships in such fashion:
I hadn’t been to Wimbledon forever, and I sat there and watched that day she played Danielle Collins. And I’m going, maybe I just haven’t seen enough grass, not on TV in a while. But like, I left that and I go: ‘Can she win this? I think she can win this tournament.’ Yeah. Like, I hadn’t picked her because like, what in her history would have suggested that that would have been the thing to do?
Swiatek will hope to begin her 2026 season better than she ended 2025. She failed to reach the semi-finals of the China Open, Wuhan Open, and the WTA Finals in Riyadh. In fact, in Riyadh, she crashed out in the round robin stage after winning just one match.
