Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios isn’t afraid to clash with anyone. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist has been highly critical of Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner over their ongoing doping scandals.
On the other hand, Andy Roddick has approached the situation from a different perspective. This difference has increased tensions between the two. Recently, on his podcast Served with Andy Roddick, the former World No.1 appeared to criticize Kyrgios for his harsh comments about players like Swiatek, who is widely expected to enter the Tennis Hall of Fame.
This followed a social media attack by Kyrgios on Roddick. The Australian accused the 2003 US Open champion of failing a doping test during his career, which may have angered the American.
The cases involving Swiatek and Sinner are still unresolved. Swiatek has completed a one-month suspension issued by tennis authorities, while WADA’s hearing on Sinner’s case is scheduled to take place after the 2025 Australian Open.
Nick Kyrgios to play the Australian Open with a protected ranking
Nick Kyrgios is set to return to the Australian Open using a protected ranking. This marks his first professional tournament in almost two years. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist has been away from the sport due to injuries. He will join a strong group of 10 Australian men, including world No. 9 Alex de Minaur.
The 29-year-old is already preparing for his comeback. He plans to play in Abu Dhabi’s new World Tennis League exhibition. After that, he will compete at the Brisbane International. These events will help him get ready for the Australian Open.
Kyrgios last played an official match in June 2023. Since then, he has been recovering from injuries. Most of his 2024 season was spent working as a tennis commentator. Fans are eager to see Kyrgios back on the court. His return to Melbourne Park promises to bring excitement to the tournament.
