Emma Raducanu has come under fire for skipping tournaments after failing to get wild cards. Once a World No. 10, Raducanu currently finds herself in the 72nd spot in the WTA rankings. Due to this, she opted not to play in the qualifiers of a few tournaments. Andy Roddick, while talking to four-time Grand Slam singles champion Kim Clijsters, discussed Raducanu at length on his podcast.

Raducanu skipped the French Open to prepare herself for the grass swing and had a decent run at the Wimbledon Championships. Later, like several players, Raducanu also skipped the Paris Olympics and instead took part in the Citi Open, where she reached the quarterfinals.

Raducanu then went on to skip the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters as she was not given wild cards for a direct entry into the main draw. Roddick, who thinks Raducanu gets “treated unfairly,” stated that if a four-time Grand Slam champion like Naomi Osaka can play the qualifiers in Cincinnati, it shows Raducanu in a bad light. The American also feels that Raducanu doesn’t do herself any favors with “scheduling and decisions.”

I can’t figure out where I’m at with it. It’s like she won’t play qualies at all for whatever reason, pulled out of the French [Open] once she had to play qualies, and it’s not a good look when someone who has the pedigree of Naomi Osaka decides to play qualies in Cincinnati, and she’s not too proud to do it.
Andy Roddick said on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast

Roddick also praised Raducanu for her Wimbledon campaign. The 21-year-old reached the fourth round at SW19 where Lulu Sun defeated her in three sets.

Emma Raducanu is set to play three tournaments as she vows to correct mistakes

After a heartbreaking exit from the US Open, which she won in 2021 as a qualifier, Emma Raducanu was in tears and admitted that playing more tournaments would have helped her have a good run at Flushing Meadows. The Brit lost to Sofia Kenin in three sets in the first round.

I would have preferred to probably play, a little bit more before coming into the US Open.
Emma Raducanu said at the press conference

Raducanu has now added three tournaments to her upcoming schedule. She is set to play at the Korea Open in Seoul, followed by the penultimate WTA 1000 tournament of the year in Beijing. She will next feature in the Hong Kong Open which starts at the end of October.
