Iga Swiatek will hold her fifth Grand Slam title if she beats Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in the Roland Garros final on Saturday (June 8). Ahead of the blockbuster summit clash, Andy Roddick picked the Pole as the favorite to win the coveted trophy and compared her game to Roger Federer

Roddick said he thought, Paolini’s semifinal opponent, Mirra Andreeva, would meet Swiatek in the final. However, he accepted that he underestimated the Italian at first, but at the same time, picked Swiatek to win the tournament because of her past results.

Me picking Iga in this match is not an underestimation of Paolini, it was against Andreeva. I realize my faults, but also, Iga is Iga is Iga is Iga.

Andy Roddick said on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast

The former American player then pointed out how Swiatek takes advantage of the momentum just like Federer, so it becomes tough for the opponents to beat her. Roddick feels the first 15–20 minutes of the match will be important for Paolini, and if she fails to give a good start and Swiatek gains momentum, then she will easily emerge victorious.

Iga is one of the best front-runners of all time, similar to Roger. When Roger got the lead, he rarely gave it up. You feel like if he breaks early, you're going to have to catch up with him. It's very, very hard. Iga is the same way.
Andy Roddick added

The former US Open champion thinks if Swiatek gets nervous, then it will affect the match, which he thinks won’t happen.

Iga Swiaek can become the first player to win three consecutive Roland Garros titles since 2007

If Iga Swiatek beats Jasmine Paolini, then she will become the first player to win three Roland Garros titles on the trot since 2007, when Justine Henin achieved the feat. The only other woman on the list is Monica Seles

Swiatek is also set to join Maria Sharapova to bag five Grand Slam titles. The Pole will join Henin to win four Roland Garros titles.

The 23-year-old will also become the third player (male or female) to win all five Grand Slam finals she played. She will join Serena Williams to complete the treble of winning in Madrid, Rome, and Paris. Williams reached the milestone in 2013.
