Carlos Alcaraz is seeking his third consecutive Wimbledon Championship at the All England Club. The Spaniard has been unbeaten in 18 matches on tour this season and has already won five titles. Tennis legend Andy Roddick opened up on the Spaniard’s chances of claiming the Wimbledon ahead of kick-off on June 30.
Alcaraz has not lost a match since April, when he lost to Holger Rune at the Barcelona Open final. The 22-year-old had a great clay season, winning three of the four tournaments he competed in. He won the Monte Carlo Masters and followed it up with a triumph at the Italian Open in Rome.
He then ended his clay-court campaign with an epic five-set win over Jannik Sinner at the Roland Garros final. He continued with his form at the Queen’s Club Championships, beating Jiri Lehecka in the final to claim his second title at the ATP 500 event. He’s currently on a 12-match winning streak on grass.
Ahead of the Wimbledon Championship, he’s the favorite to claim the title having secured back-to-back titles at the All England Club in 2023 and 2024. At the tournament, he’s bidding to become the fifth man in the Open Era to win the tournament three times in a row. Should he be victorious, he will also join Bjorn Borg, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic in the list of players to have won it three times.
During a conversation on Tennis Channel, Andy Roddick offered his prediction on whether or not the World No.2 will extend his winning streak to 25, for which he will need to claim the Wimbledon Championship:
I think so, I wouldn’t bet against it. I mean, listen, anything can happen. Sinner is going to re-enter the conversation; let’s not forget about him, he’s still really good. He’s number one in the world. He’s been the best player in the world for the last… however long, especially on hard-court. Let’s not get carried away with these results, but Carlos was the favorite at Wimbledon before Queen’s, and he’s the favorite after Queen’s as well. I don’t think anyone would argue against that.
The last time Alcaraz lost a match on grass was at the Queen’s Club Championships last year against Jack Draper. The Spaniard has been the standout player of the season and has also won the highest number of titles (5) in the men’s circuit this season.
Carlos Alcaraz says he’s proud of winning the Queen’s Club Championships
Carlos Alcaraz won five straight matches to win the Queen’s Club Championships. Usually, players often take time to transition smoothly to grass after a hectic clay season. But, it was not the same for Alcaraz, who looked sharp in his first grass-court event of the season at Queen’s. He defeated Jiri Lehecka in three sets to claim the title in the final.

After winning the title on Sunday (June 22), he revealed that his goal on arriving at the tournament was to compete and not to lift the trophy:
I just got used to the grass really quick, and I’m just really proud about it. My goal was complete, and I’m not talking about lifting the trophy or making the final. It was just to feel great, to feel really comfortable on grass once again. So what I’m more proud about this week is the way that I have been improving every day. Since the first day until today, I think I’m a different player on grass.
Alcaraz will now face a tough task at the Wimbledon Championship as he seems to defend it for the second time. The 22-year-old has met Novak Djokovic in the final in the last two finals of the competition. This year’s edition, he may have a new rival for the title, as Jannik Sinner has proven he can compete in other major tournaments outside the hard courts.
