Carlos Alcaraz has not been with his senior coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, for most of the tournament this season, including the Monte Carlo.

Carlos Alcaraz has become a pioneer of the new generation of players on tour, succeeding the Big Three. The 21-year-old has had to rival Jannik Sinner for dominance. However, the youngster has reached the heights under the tutelage of his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

But in recent months, Alcaraz seems to be struggling on the court. The World No.3 has seen his influence shrink on the court and got beaten by players outside the Top 20. Also, with the absence of Sinner from the court due to suspension, he has failed to use that opportunity and win tournaments.

In all this, Alcaraz coach Carlos Ferrero hasn’t been with the youngster for most of the tournament this season. That was previously agreed upon in their partnership this season with Samuel Lopez taking his place while away from tour. This has led to some fans calling for the coach to be sacked by Alcaraz.

American legend Andy Roddick, who has been a huge fan of Alcaraz, slammed the calls for Carlos Ferrero’s sack. The former World No.1 revealed that in the 1990’s best players like Pete Sampras sometimes failed to win matches, and that should not be new to fans.

Do you guys remember the crazy times before the big three when players didn’t make the finals every week? We kind of have to reset expectations, and one of the greats, Pete Sampras, as great as he was, won 14 majors and finished number one in the world six times; he would lose the third round sometimes. He just would he’d win one or two majors a year instead of three; we have to reset expectations. Carlos Alcaraz already has more majors than Andy Murray; he’s halfway towards icons like Connors and Agassi. It’s absurd what he’s done, and we need to reset a little bit. Anyone calling for a coaching change doesn’t know anything about coaching.

Carlos Ferrero has been since when he was 12 or 13. Both have built a strong personal relationship and under his guidance, Alcaraz has won seventeen tour-level titles. That’s far more than many players have won at just 21.

Carlos Alcaraz excited at returning to clay after second round win at Monte Carlo

Carlos Alcaraz earned his second Monte Carlo Masters win after coming from behind to beat Francisco Cerundolo in the second round. The World No.3 didn’t play at his level in the first set, which led to his opponent winning the first set before ousting him 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. After the match, Alcaraz revealed what he liked about playing on clay.

Yeah, long rallies, you know, get the socks dirty a little bit. You know, that’s what I miss, to watch good tennis. I think, you know, on clay, you can watch the real tennis, because as I said, it’s not only watching, you know, big serves or whatever, or points, you know, and just one or two shots.

Alcaraz will fade a tough Daniel Altmaier in the Round of 16 of the Monte Carlo Masters. The German has defeated Richard Gasquet and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the tournament but Alcaraz is favorite to come out with a win over him.

Carlos Alcaraz’s minor blip has been exaggerated

Carlos Alcaraz’s minor blip this season has been over-exaggerated and bloated. The Spaniard didn’t play to the expectations of fans and former legends when it matters, but he’s still a winner. Perhaps, the clay court season is a time for him to come alive and win tournaments, and prove to his doubters that he still has it.

He has a good record on the surface having won seven career titles on clay. He has been a major tournament player since winning the 2022 US Open and has been evolving in his game. He now has a chance to win the Monte Carlo Masters, despite not having much experience at the tournament, but with the exit of Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev, he has all the cards to claim the title.

He also has an advantage to return to the Barcelona Open after the Monte Carlo and win the tournament. That will help give him the needed confidence before Jannik Sinner returns from suspension.
