Former World No.1 Andy Roddick cheekily dragged WTA star Naomi Osaka for costing him $1000 following her unusual fashion moments at the 2025 US Open. Osaka was the center of attraction at the Flushing Meadows this season, with not only her performance on the court but also the attire that she wore in each match.
Osaka featured a series of customized Labubu plush toys at each of her appearances at the 2025 US Open. Along with the custom toy, she carried a crystal outfit and a well-designed and decorated racket bag. The former Australian Open champion sent her fans into a frenzy as she brought new customs to each match.
She named the toys inspired by tennis icons. One of them Billie Jean Bling and LaBillieBu, were named after tennis great Billie Jean King. Arthur Fashe (after Arthur Ashe), and Althea Glitterson (after Althea Gibson). Osaka gave an experienced performance at the tournament, beating Coco Gauff in the round of 16.
The former World No.1 reached the semi-finals and faced the in-form Amanda Anisimova, who defeated her in three sets. However, after the defeat, she revealed that the Labubu she arrived at the court with was inspired by her 2024 US Open appearance. The Japanese star named the toy Naomi Glowsaka.
Osaka’s fashion style at the tournament drew attention from fans, of which of them was Andy Roddick’s daughter Stevie. The former American player revealed during a conversation on the Served podcast that he spent $1,000 on Labubu toys to satisfy his daughter, who desperately wanted them:
She’s cost me. I’ve gotta be honest with that backpack at the US Open. She’s cost me about $1,000 in Labubus with my daughter. I mean, Naomi Osaka had a larger impact on our family this year than she will ever realize. Yeah, just nuts.
Osaka had her first tour-level final after over a year at the Canadian Open in July. The Japanese star stunned the tennis world with her great performance en route to the championship match, but failed to claim the title as she fell in three sets to home favorite Victoria Mboko. Nonetheless, the run propelled her to perform better at the 2025 US Open, despite withdrawing from the Cincinnati Open.
Naomi Osaka provides a fitness update ahead of the 2026 United Cup
Naomi Osaka took a lot of positives from the 2025 season, which saw her win her first title in four years at Saint-Malo and then reach the final of the Canadian Open. But the Japanese star struggled to meet expectations during the Asian swing, suffering a second-round exit at the China Open and Wuhan Open.

Her 2025 season ended at the Japan Open, where she suffered a left thigh injury after reaching the quarter-finals. Ahead of the 2026 United Cup, Osaka offered a positive update about her fitness. She revealed during an interview with So Tennis that she will be able to provide a better assessment of her fitness after her first match in Perth, Australia:
I hope so. I guess I’ll let you know after my first few matches, but I think so. You know, I feel like every year I’m slowly getting stronger, so I hope next year I’m better too. Yeah, I mean it definitely is. Obviously I have never played the United Cup before, but I think I’m going to try to treat it like a Billie Jean King Cup.
Osaka will open her 2026 campaign at the United Cup, which starts on January 2. The former World No.1 decided to play in the mixed event as she has already sealed her place in the draw of the Australian Open, something she couldn’t do at this time last year.
