Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that the club has suspended Yves Bissouma for the season opener against Leicester City. In an earlier incident, the Mali international posted a video of him on Snapchat where he was inhaling nitrous oxide that is better known as laughing gas.
Nitrous oxide is treated as a Grade C drug under the Misuse of Drugs act imposed by the British government in order to have a crackdown on antisocial behaviour. Posting the video, Yves Bissouma was in direct violation of the law, and Tottenham Hotspur said in an earlier statement that they will be investigating this internally.
He won't be available for Monday. We've suspended him from Monday's game. Beyond that, there's some trust building that has to happen between Biss and me, and Biss and the group. That's what he needs to work hard at from now on, to win that back. That's got nothing to do with one game. He may be suspended for one game but he has to earn that. The door is open for him and hopefully we can help him to realise that the decisions he makes impacts more than just him and allows him to make better decisions moving forward.Ange Postecoglou said in the press conference ahead of their Premier League opener
As a part of the plan, Ange Postecoglou has clarified that Bissouma will play no part in the Premier League opener as he has been suspended.
Postecoglou also said that Yves Bissouma has certain responsibilities to the club and also to his teammates. Apart from that, he should understand that he has an onus towards the supporters as well. Posting the video, Bissouma has failed them all. He also emphasized the fact that in order to come back to the side, the Mali international will have to improve his behavior, make better choices and keep on moving forward.
What is next for Tottenham Hotspur?
Tottenham Hotspur will be starting their Premier League campaign with a clash against Leicester City on Tuesday. They had a pretty eventful pre-season which saw them win against Shrewsbury before going down fighting against Palermo by a solitary goal.
After finishing fifth in the last edition of the tournament, Spurs will be hopeful of a better performance in the latest season of Premier League.
It goes without saying that all eyes will be on Son Heung-Min as he is the captain of Tottenham. However, they will also be relying heavily on their Brazilian centre-forward Richarlison, who will be joined by Dominic Solanke, coming in from Bournemouth to bolster their attacking forces.
